A study was performed to evaluate the impact of employing telemedicine services on nursing care in intensive care units (ICU). It was ascertained that nurses agreed that there were several positive beneficial factors to employing tele-Intensive Care Unit (tele-ICU) which has an effect on their clinical workflows. According to Kleinpell, Barden, Rincon, McCarthy, and Furo (2016), “…using tele-Intensive Care Unit (tele-ICU) enables them to accomplish tasks more quickly (63%), improves collaboration (65.9%), improves job performance (63.6%), improves communication (60.4%), is useful in nursing assessments (60%), and improves care by giving more time for patient care (45.6%)”. In contrast, 28.1% of the nurses thought that tele-ICU violated
patients’ privacy. It was established that advantages of employing tele-ICU consisted of the capability to monitor trends in vital signs, discovering any erratic or unusual physiological symptoms, offering medical management, improving patient safety, averting patients from removing their own tubes, and avoiding any potential falls (Kleinpell, Barden, Rincon, McCarthy, & Furo, 2016).
