smiling or showing passion. “Nothing conspicuous about them.” Until the end, when the wife throws a little surprise for BM.
The second difference between Johnny and BM is the level of communication. In FJ, Johnny doesn’t communicate with Frankie to tell her where he is going or who he’s meeting with. She had to find out by the bartender where he was. Frankie curiously asked the bartender, “Mr. Bartender, has my loving Johnny been here?” The bartender replied to Frankie’s question, “I saw your man about an hour ago with a gal named Nellie Bligh.” Johnny hid the fact that he was cheating on her with another woman. Whereas in BP, when the BM and BW arrive at the restaurant to have dinner, the BM doesn’t ask how the BW is doing. If he asked her, he would have figured out the “Occasion.” When they brought It out, “Birthday cake, with one pink candle,” it signified that he was having a girl. Which he didn’t know he was having until BW told him.
The third difference between Johnny and BM is the result of what happened to them.
In FJ, Johnny cheated on Frankie with Nellie Bligh; as a result, she shot him. “Rooty-toot-toot three times she did shoot.” Johnny died right after and sent Frankie to jail, so she can get the electric chair. “They take poor Johnny to the graveyard.” On the other hand, since BM is now a father, “Birthday cake, with one pink candle” his life will be unexpectedly complicated. Since his wife never told him she was having a kid, he was unhappy and is now obligated to stay with her. “because the husband was not pleased.” He is now trapped with BW he doesn’t like anymore for the next 9 months.
The level of passion, the level of communication, and result of what happened to the them are 3 differences the men have in FJ and BP. A relationship is a fragile thing, one wrong move and it will shatter. Without intimacy or passion, as Robert Trotter once said, “All that remains is the commitment to stay with the other
person.”
