English Essay: 2 (Hobbies are a reflection of popular fashion and trends)
Hobbies are auxiliary activities that an individual turns to for delight. These hobbies vary from person to person as different people have different personality traits. At present, stress is a day to day matter in everyone’s life in the fast lane. Therefore, individuals practice their ‘hobbies’ as an antidote for their anxiety. Nowadays, some people trail the fashion trends of the luminaries, while others tend to survey pop magazines and fashion shows. Hence, in this piece of writing, I will substantiate why and how fashion and trends have influenced people’s hobbies and interests today and why their hobbies and interests change over time.
As a person grows, interests start to blossom and begin to change us bit by bit. For example, a baby who is just some moths old would not be interested in much besides eating and snoozing. While, a toddler would be seen trying to walk on anything and everything. When we enter school we begin to mingle with more people, our social ring swells, and our interests begin to paint a broader picture. Throughout these stages we need a figure to look up to, a motivator – a goal post. That figure, in one way or the other, speaks to us as who we ourselves want to be in the future. This could be a friend, a teacher, a celebrity or merely your mother.
Are hobbies and trends related? Absolutely! People are social creatures. They tend to behave in a way that is fitting to a social group they belong to. This significantly affects our hobbies and interests. A wise man once said, ‘tell me your company and I will tell you the man you are.’ When you are young, you really need to be a part of your company. That is why young people imitate interests and hobbies of each other as they are always trying to ‘fit in’.
Another reason for this trend is mass media and advertising. New ideas and trends are always in the news.
