Martin Luther King Jr. was born January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia and died April 4, 1968 in Memphis Tennessee. He was a minster, American clergyman, activist, and well known leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. Also, he was married to Coretta Scott and they had four children. In addition, he received the Noble Peace Prize in 1964. However, there isn’t one leader who’s perfect. Also, not one of us is perfect, so before we start casting stones on others. Also, we need to be very sure that we are aware of our faults. Therefore, Martin Luther King Jr. should be admired because of his leadership, his emphasis on non-violent protest, and his ability to inspire.
Martin Luther King Jr. should be admired because of his effective leadership. He led the movement of racial equality in the 1950s. He fought passionately for the rights of African Americans and he communicated this vision successfully, consistently, and truthfully. Also, he led the boycott of Montgomery buses in Alabama. After Rosa Parks’ refusal to surrender her seat on a Montgomery, Alabama bus to a white man which led to her arrest. The boycott lasted for a little over a year and the boycott led to the end of the racial segregation on all Montgomery buses. Lastly, he led a founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. In addition, he led marches for blacks’ right to vote desegregation, labor rights, and other basic civil rights.
Another reason why Martin Luther King Jr. should be admired is because of his emphasis on peace and non-violent protests. By using non- violent methods following the teachings of Mohandas Gandhi. He and other activists founded and created Southern Christian Leadership Conference. The purpose was to have powerful black churches conduct non-violent protests. He did not stop there. He even uses the non-violent method in his campaign to change the civil rights laws implemented in Alabama. In addition, he also applied the non- violent methods and
