Wild’s viewpoint of roaches contradicts Morley’s by validating the cockroach’s misaligned reputation through dark diction and nightmarish images, making the reader uncomfortably aware of its eeriness. Unlike Morley’s friendly roach who raids the kitchen at night, Wild’s creepy roaches take possession of human beings invading their bodies. This roach, as opposed to Morley’s, is eating disgusting gunk in the bathroom that no person would ever consider to be a meal, something so noxious. The roaches begin to take over his body, ”nibbling his toes,” “probing in his veins,” and “scrambling up his throat” in the same way that roaches take over the sewers in the dark of night “crouched like…

My father kneels in the kitchen floor begging my mother to help him. It’s a summer night and the room is brightly lit. Tiny insects cluster around the light fixtures, and the pleading quality in my father’s voice reminds me of those insects- high pitched, insistent, frantic. It is a sound I never heard coming from him. My mother knocked a billion times but no one answered the door; not even a whimper of…

Just like the game “the name of the game is the game itself,” The End of Nature is a book written by Bill McKibben that talks about the end of nature. It is about the different destructions brought by the activities of humans towards nature. Although questions has been raised regarding the span of time that these effects will happen and the magnitude or the extent of which these effects will happen, the author argues that most have underestimated the factors on the nature’s end.…
