When you think of year end testing and it's barely March it seems to far away. However, the testing window will be opening soon. Depending on your state, you may have additional tests that need to be taken before the end of the school year. So how is it best to get your students ready?
Typing Skills- It may not be the test materials, but the computer format that may be the problem. Encourage students to type at least 10-15 minutes a day. This will help them be confident with their technology skills as well.
Relaxation Techniques- I remember when I was in 5th grade,
we practiced deep breathing before we took tests. Students with test anxiety, this will help them as well as your other students.
Take Practice Tests- Take time to encourage testing stratgies. Show writing examples that are both good and bad and allow students to "grade" them.
Read The Big Test. This is my favorite pre-testing read aloud.
Communicate with Parents- Let parents know testing dates to encourage attendance, good sleep and breakfast routines.
What is your favorite way to get ready for the big end of year tests? See you back next week as we talk about after testing activities.
