Peter uses his influence to try to force Ender to believe that Peter is more dominant and powerful than Ender by illustrating his influence over their mother and father. Ender sees Peter in a mirror, as Ender's own reflection. Instead of seeing himself, Ender sees Peter, relaying to Ender that he is Peter. Ender is a killer, a murderer in his own eyes. Ender's view that he is like Peter and a killer, destroys his self-confidence. Since Ender learned that violence is the solution to your problems, it makes it harder for him to bond with other characters in the story.
