knocking on Ender’s door for him to leave for Battle School. This moment of isolation gave Ender much more confidence in himself that he had not had before. Even though Ender was put through much isolation, he was able to create friendships with many people, which was really important for him to do if he was to become a Commander. For example, Ender made friends with Bean, and Shen in his launch group. He probably would not have been able to even make it out of the launch group if it were not for them. Then he was moved to Salamander Army, where he met Petra and Dink, and in this army, Petra taught Ender how to shoot. He was able to become friends with all these people and learn from them, and eventually when he was sent to Command School he led them into battle against the buggers. If Ender had not kept these relationships he might not have been able to lead the army in the way that he did, but instead they all listened and followed Ender’s orders. These friendships kept Ender sane, and all of his friends helped him in some way for him to succeed. For Ender to be able to reach Command School and graduate, he went through a great many amount of fights. War plays a big role in this book because Ender is always fighting. For example, Ender fights his bully Stilson, he fights with Peter, he breaks Bernarnd’s arm, he kills Bonzo, he fights the giant, and he fights the buggers. Throughout the entirety of the book Ender is fighting, it makes him stronger and a greater person. If Ender did not get into so many fights than he would not have been able to fight the buggers. Within the story Ender’s Game there are multiple themes that arise, like isolation, friendship, and warfare that are important to the story. There are not many similarities between the book and the film, because the film left quite a lot of information out.
These similarities provided character development, which led to important events, and obstacles Ender faced. Some of the most important similarities are the removal of Ender’s monitor and him beating up Stilson after, Ender playing the mind games, Mazer Rackham mentoring him, and Valentine trying to convince Ender to go back to space and finish his training. The most important similarity was Ender discovering the last bugger pupa and trying to find a planet where he can put it so the buggers can peacefully colonize again. All of these made the book and movie all that much better, because they all had profound impacts on the
story. There were many more differences than similarities between the book and film, because the film left out many important events, therefore, leaving out important character developments like Peter becoming leader of the Earth, and the creation of Locke and Demosthenes. Events that needed to be shown were not, like Ender’s practice with his launch group and breaking Bernard’s arm all to show how much Ender has grown at the end of the story. The obstacles Ender faced were the most important, especially trying to forget about Peter, there was not much in the film to develop Peter. All of these were in the book which is why it is much better than the film. The film is not true to the story of Ender because of the important character development, events, and obstacles Ender faced, that it left out, but the book included. This is why I believe that the book is much better, it includes much more detail and development throughout. With such a great book in Ender’s Game, the film should be just as good, but unfortunately that is just not the case.
