In an alternate universe, a small group of rebel aliens came to earth eons before humans existed and fought for the freedom of this planet. These aliens are actually sentient rocks. Their main powers, their being, even their physical form all originate from gems placed on their body somewhere. This is why the race is referred to as ‘gems’. Each character is named after the mineral that makes up their gem. These gems can fuse, that is, they can mesh together their consciousness, strengths and bodies to combine into a bigger gem, called a fusion. Ruby feels that her partner isn’t reacting as she should be. Their whole existence as Garnet was threatened, and Sapphire just want to sit there and let it blow over! This threatens Ruby’s sense of belonging and her security
3) Describe the different styles used by each disputant in handling the conflict.
Ruby is acting out and displacing her anger, which is shown by how she willingly yells and destroys things around her. The pool at the motel, the table at the restaurant, ruby has taken her frustrations out on the inanimate objects around her. Sapphire on the other hand, has buried her feelings so that the whole situation blows over. She’s very quiet and evidently still angry, but she refuses to act on her emotions because she knows it won’t help. Neither of these two would’ve gotten ANYWHERE without Steven’s help.
4) Was the style of conflict resolution effective? Why or why not?
Yes. Their resolution was effective because Sapphire and Ruby finally realize that Steven has been internalizing and taking the blame on himself.
