3. ‘A friend in need is a friend indeed’. Describe how a friend helped you in a difficult time. A friend is someone who always be there for you during thick and thin, who always be our best listener and who will always help us from barking up the wrong tree. Without a friend, ones will feel alone and never know how to socialize with people around him or her. Everyone in this world needs friends as companion in their life. So do I. We can have a lot of friends but to find a true and loyal one is the hardest.

I have a best friend and I think she is the best girl I have ever met, El. We were enrolled in the same school since we are 7 years old. We used to be strangers at first but as we were placed in the same class, we get closed to each other. Plus, we are deskmate. She is a kind-hearted person. This pretty Kelantanese girl used to be very down to earth to all people that she met. She lived in a small town, outskirts of Kota Bharu. She was born with a silver spoon in her mouth. Her father works as a pediatric specialist in one of the most well-known hospital in Kelantan. While her mom works as an English lecturer in Universiti Malaysia Kelantan.

I was having a very difficult time when I was 15 years old. It was a calm and quiet night when I’m burning the midnight oil because the PMR was just around the corner. The residents around my housing area all asleep. It was only me and my pile of books. The clock on my pink room’s wall shown that the time was almost half past twelve in the midnight. I felt very sleepy, so I decided to make a cup of black coffee in the wooden kitchen. Without thinking twice, I made a fast move towards the kitchen and grab a cup, a spoon and a sachet of black coffee. Out of the blue, I sniffed something unusual that smell like smokes. At first, I did not suspect anything. But then I saw flames coming from the back of the kitchen. For a second, I

Even though, so called “radical thinkers,” come in all shapes and sizes and have different ideologies, would they perhaps support one another’s philosophies? Friedrich Nietzsche’s out take on Christianity is, let’s face it, quite ominous, compared to certain important historical leaders such as, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but their ideologies might not be so far off. Both Nietzsche and Dr. King were thought of as “radical thinkers,” and are still thought of as “radical thinkers” till this day, for completely separate reasons. But I believe that their motivations/motives are the reason why their views in morality are equivalent in seriousness to; fundamentally the same. Even though these two great “critical thinkers” have opposing views in certain important issues, such as Christianity, I believe that if Nietzsche were to have lived during Dr. King’s time, he would agree with certain philosophies that Dr. King had.…

Lifestyles differ from one family to another, and some families have an easy life and everything is in their favor. Other families have a more difficult time getting around life and trying to survive, just like the author Bobbie Ann Mason in her article, “Being Country.” The author explains major difficulties that affected her life and her family’s life. Some of these major difficulties include a broken dream, a lack of food, and a restricted wardrobe.…

The idealized images, the pictures of perfection, are what we usually see in advertisements nowadays. Commercials have become a great part that we encounter in our daily life; as a consequence, we are all affected by the perfect outlook of what showed on mass media. As a case in point, Americans are usually attracted by the greatly designed sport utilities vehicles. These vehicles are usually a symbol of an ideological value through the image of a powerful, break-through tool in order to conquer nature. Nonetheless, the gap between the mythic significance of the SUVs and reality is somehow undeniable. From historical to modern aspects, the legend of SUVs in stunning advertisements are sometimes just a disappointment. The idealized images, however, are often the symbol of how American life is viewed and lived. Thus, the differences between these images of perfection and reality not only illustrate an ambitious dream, but also confusion and the exploitation of historical values.…

Poetry can take forms in several different mediums in order to best express the meaning which the author is trying to portray. Poetry is one of the greatest forms of expression and sometimes act as the only way the author is able to truly express themself and for this, poetry can also, arguably, considered a true art form. However, not every medium of poetry is widely accepted among the public and thus creates controversy, which is commonly seen in other forms of art. Poetry is subjective to whomever it is interpreted by, and thus gives a different meaning to each person who reads or listens to it. Sound poems can sometimes be very abstract forms of poetry which may be harder to accept by the listening public or readers because of the intense interpretation required for these pieces, and some may think that they are too radical to even be considered poetry at all. Kurt Schwitters’ Sonate in Urlauten and Lewis Carroll’s The Jabberwocky are both forms of sound poems introduced in poetry, yet the two are incredibly different in their delivery, their interpretation and their targeted audience. Both express the use of imaginative words throughout their poem; however, there are different forms of sound poems which are executed more elegantly than others. On the grounds of interpretation, written words can be easier to annotate than spoken words because of the freedom that the reader has while reading the poem.…

“My biggest pet peeve is just girls who go to sports bars who have no intention on caring what teams are playing, like they’re looking for just a night out. That drives me crazy than anything else. Like don’t pretend to be a sports fan.” This quote was publicly said by American actor Jerry Ferrara. A sports team, no matter what the sport is; baseball, basketball, and football are nothing without the support of their loyal fans. Although, many people like sports, and watch them on television, few people actually have a strong pride for a team, or really care about how a team performs on a competitive game-to-game basis. There are different kinds of sports fans such as die-hard, part-time, fair weather and homer fans that will be individually discussed in this essay.…

In the essay “Best Friends,” Howard Salomon Jr. expresses his feelings about friendship; he also interviewed some people and took conclusions from it, and tells a story about his personal life. A friend is a person who is chosen by each of us to be part of each peoples’ life. There are two kinds of friends: friends, and best friends. Best friends are those friends who no matter what are their situation, if his or her friend needs them; they are going to do the best in order to help their best friend. Twenty people were interviewed and all of them agreed in three requirements for being friends: reciprocity, honesty, and love. Reciprocity, honesty, and love are important traits in friendship, but I believe that the most important trait to be friends is to be unconditional.…
