English 101 is a writing course meant to improve your ability to communicate through the medium of expository prose for both practical and academic purposes. Particular attention will be paid to the coherence and correctness of the writing itself, but all aspects of the writing process will be discussed. You will learn critical thinking and reading strategies useful both for personal intellectual development and for work required by more advanced college courses. Since reading and writing skills tend to complement each other, we will read and discuss a variety of texts significant in the history of Western thought and examine both their driving ideas, and their style of composition and argument.…

As seen throughout, Golding uses Jack to depict the evil side of humanity and symbolizes every man’s wickedness. Jack had a desire and jealous intent to be chief. As can be seen “I ought to be chief”, said Jack with simple arrogance (22). That shows humanity’s want for power. His fetish with killing and trying to make himself a killer was always showed. Seen in a conversation with Ralph when Jack replied “Hunters” (23). He always wanted to hunt and kill whatever he could…

In Mary Rowlandson’s Captivity Narrative the Indians were pagans and she was a puritan. Sometimes the Indians were very rude to her and other times they were nicer. In William Bradford’s Of A Plymouth Plantation Bradford just came over to the new land and found the Indians and figured they were savage barbarians. Mary Rowlandsons Captivity Narrative contradicts William Bradford’s in his Of Plymouth Plantation. This is shown by Bradford only thinks they are barbarians and Rowlandson has grey area in her time spend with the Indians.…

"…fear can't hurt you any more than a dream.” (Golding 79). In this quote Jack is missaid, this is showing the lack of understanding Jack has due to tremendous leadership skills he does not present. Golding shows multiple times throughout the novel unfairness towards all the characters, at some point in the novel. As demonstrated many characters have been given an unfair say in their society created by the boys after their plane crashed into the island. Jack believes in that his opinion is right, as demonstrated in the quote above, and does not believe that there's a beast on the island. Unfairness in society is discovered and demonstrated as a turning point in the novel through both Jack and Ralph.…

I believe the author of the first essay, Dinner Party Table Settings; chose the informative process because the author wanted to give step-by-step instructions on how one hosts a dinner party. This is useful because it teaches the reader in precise steps. The author could have used a space order organization method, which would have provided a more learning experience. When it came to the third essay Cochlear Implants; the author organizes the essay by topic. The author first starts off by explaining what…

In the past year, more than fifty percent of the victims involved in police brutality have been African American, and or other minority groups such as Latino’s.
