Engineer's Day Quotes
It gives me great pleasure to be with you on the 46th Engineers' Day which is being held to commemorate the 152nd birth anniversary of Dr. M.
Vishweshwaraiya, one of the greatest engineers of the land. Bharat Ratna Dr.
Vishweshwaraiya was, as you all know, not only a great engineering genius but also a very able administrator. His works in irrigation sector are engineering marvels and remain source of inspiration for engineers for all times to come.
Engineering is an activity other than purely manual and physical work which brings about the utilization of the materials and laws of nature for the good of humanity.
“Engineering is the art of organizing and directing men and controlling the forces and materials of nature for the benefit of the human race.”
“For decades engineers have stood accused that their buildings do not have any cultural value. We have attempted to liberate engineering of this accusation
“A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools.”
Engineering is the professional art of applying science to the optimum conversion of natural resources to the benefit of man
Engineers participate in the activities which make the resources of nature available in a form beneficial to man and provide systems which will perform optimally and economically
Before we get started lets take a look around. Do you see anything special? May be, may be not. But, as an engineer I do!! Right from the latest mobile phones you are carrying, to the state of the art projector, almost everything that you see is a product of extensive research and technical expertise- a product of engineering.
I thank the student affairs committee for giving me this opportunity to speak to you on this occasion of World Engineering Day.

A few years back, the world still thought of India as a primitive country- famous for snake-charmers and rope tricks. Today ‘India’ is considered synonymous with technology and IT, and has been successful in the whole gamut of software services- right from low-cost competence to high-end Research. Now India is looked upon as a potential investment hub, a country with a great future. Some even expect it to be one of the next super-powers. A major credit for this change in perception goes to companies like the Tata Group of Companies, Infosys, and numerous others, most of which are stalwarts in different fields of engineering. They are the ones who have established India on the global map. India is now among the elite group of countries renowned for their successful space programs having indigenously developed numerous satellites and launched vehicles. We have made significant strides in the manufacturing sector, especially in industries like textiles and automobiles. These are large employment generators and contribute significantly to India’s GDP. All these are the fields where engineering has done well.
But that does not mean we can afford to sit back and enjoy our moment in the sunshine. There are numerous fields where India is still a minnow compared to other countries. Our Power sector requires major reforms and thrust. A major percentage of rural India has still not felt the benefits of electrification. Our situation in infrastructure is dismaying. Our engineering capabilities remain unutilized

The nature of engineering is learning to apply scientific and mathematical principles towards developing solutions of technical problems. Engineers are the secret link between scientific discoveries and the commercial applications that meet consumer needs. Many engineers develop new products in which components are precisely specified. For instance, the product must be effective, reliable, safe, and be sold at a decent price. This process applies to the development of chemicals, computers, power plants, helicopters, and much much more. These engineers supervise factory production, determine causes of machinery failure and test goods so to maintain quality. (Career Info)…

In order to be a good engineer one must therefore be technically competent. Without this, it matters little whether or not the engineer is honest, responsible, benevolent, just, reliable, compassionate, or generous. He will still fail in his basic purpose to alter the material environment by using his knowledge of math and science because he is not competent. An 18th century English writer and critic, Samuel Johnson, penned, “Integrity without knowledge is weak and useless, and knowledge without integrity is dangerous and dreadful” (“Engineering Quotes). Reflecting on this with respect to engineering, it becomes evident that knowledge without integrity or character directly affects the “safety, health, and welfare of the public” (Harris 376). Engineers are therefore intertwined with the public in a very symbiotic way. Each thrives off and is directly affected by the other. Engineers exist to fix…

We humans have a long history of polluting our air, water, and soil. This contamination not only hurts nature, but is dangerous to people. Luckily, environmental engineers are on the job. They use math and science to clean up the messes we've made and prevent new ones from happening. For example, they might figure out how to clean up toxic material that has seeped into the ground at an old gas station or design an effective way to treat wastewater.…

The role of engineers in society today can be seen everywhere in your daily lives, when you put gas in your car, the chemical engineer designed the fuel to run in an engine that was designed by an engineer that is in a car frame designed by another engineer. Today, engineers to grow more crops faster and to last longer on the grocery shelves after they have been picked modify even food. The roles of engineers have changed a bit for the times and society wants things designed to be greener and more environmentally friendly, to make the most of what resources the earth has, but also keep society comfortable and easy to use. These global challenges are met head on by engineers because these problems will face society in the next ten years and even beyond. The three global challenges that will be covered in this paper are ways to lessen fuel consumption, how to restore and improve urban infrastructure and how to enhance virtual reality. These three global challenges reach into every part of the world and in every facet of society, which is why engineers are working on them now.…
