I use to think that being a teacher was going to be a short eight hours of teaching and being with children. Having summers off made being a teacher seem a lot more beneficial to. When it comes to writing papers, I usually have a difficult time getting started. I sometimes have trouble with certain topics, getting the general concept, and then turning it into a writing that will get my point across. I feel as if I’m not very creative with my words as I should be without sounding so scattered brained and lost. I was a little nervous when entering English 1102, after having such a difficult time in English 1101 online. At first I did feel at ease but once we got to doing research on a particular food and the articles, I did have some challenging moments. Things that teachers could do to help me have an easier time writing an essay is to not give work time in class. Honestly I will probably spend it playing computer games. While I could be doing a worksheet that shows me how to write better. Another thing that could help me is to make mini due dates. I like knowing that I am going at the right pace while I am writing. I also have a few recommendations for students who take this class next semester. The first and biggest one is to get done early. If you get done early you can spend class doing other homework or play games, without being stressed out about finishing your essay. Another tip is to use paper rater. You do a lot of writing in this class, and paper rater can make it so your essays don’t have errors without having to spend a lot of time looking for them. Nursing has been given the idea that a lot of writing is not needed after nursing school, but that assumption is incorrect. Nurses have a lot of daily task, many of them need good writing and comprehension skills which can be developed in English 101 and English 102 classes. But after reading “They Say/ I Say”, and going through a few classes discussing the text. I now have a deeper understanding of a writer’s audience, and how the importance of narrowing down who you are talking too in your essays is when trying to convince someone of something. Also, something I didn’t realize was that there are various ways and templates on introducing ideas, refuting ideas, summarizing ideas, etc. to help make your argument stronger. These templates in the They Say/I Say reading really gave me a bulk of new ways to introduce my ideas for my essay assignments in class, and really made me a better writer. This led to me seriously changing my writing process. Previously, I would simply sit on an essay assignment for a while and like most people, when the deadline or due date finally sneaks up on me I’d do it. This cycle of procrastinating really hurt my ability to string together strong coherent essays, even in my first two essays for the class. But because of my Professors emphasis on peer review and really the writing process in general, I can proudly say have changed my ways. Over time I constructed a mentality, and underlying self-confidence that I would receive an A no matter what.
