English class has always come easily to me, but sometimes I do take a lot more time doing some topics than others. I believe that taking your time to figure something out is better than saying that you understand it and then do poorly on the test. Every student has their own way to study or their own way to figure out how to pass the next test. In English, I feel it is extremely important to know what you’re doing and what you’re doing it. Personally, I use many different techniques during school and I feel that they have gotten me to a good place now.…

A child who is an English language learner (ELL) requires a positive, supportive, and secure environment in order to learn the second language (Gunning, 2013, p. 35). If the child feels a strong support system, he/she will have the confidence to attempt and work on their English skills (Gunning, 2013, p. 13). Educators must “know about and understand diverse family and community characteristics,” which is NAEYC’s standard 2a. Acquiring knowledge on diverse characteristics that families exhibit will allow the educator to be more understanding, have background knowledge, and learn of ways to effectively communicate and assist the child and their families.…

Growing up in two worlds is essentially what it was, living in a country where English is the number one language and being raised by Mexican parents where Spanish is the only language used isn’t an easy task growing up. I would speak one language with my friends but a different one with my parents; I sometimes ask myself how the heck did I graduate high school? As a kid I confused words and sometimes my friends or family would look at me with confusion, only to find out that I was speaking “Spanglish” (a combination of Spanish and English). The hardest moment in my life was in third grade, the day I was placed in an all-English classroom. I spoke English perfectly but the obstacle was understanding what the teacher was talking about, I couldn’t comprehend the language as well as the other students in the class. For example I knew how to say things with no problem but If someone would say something to me I wouldn’t understand because they were ether talking to fast or I couldn’t understand they’re vocabulary.…

For me, Journey in English 9 was like a sea; Calm at most times, but will sometimes be disturbed by violent waves. The waves will then dissolve, and the sea will become calm once again. On the first day of English, I stepped in without any fears. I was confident, and also excited for another year of English. Our first assignment arrived shortly. We had to write and present a short essay revolving a quote. ‘Every moment you get is a gift. Spend on things that matter. Don’t spend it by dwelling on unhappy things.” This was my quote, and I felt that I did well. Although I was still lacking in oral presentation skills, I was improving.…

English grammar has minimal inflection compared with most other Indo-European languages. For example, Modern English, unlike Modern German or Dutch and the Romance languages, lacks grammatical gender and adjectival agreement. Case marking has almost disappeared from the language and mainly survives in pronouns. The patterning of strong (e.g. speak/spoke/spoken) versus weak verbs (e.g. love/loved or kick/kicked) inherited from its Germanic origins has declined in importance in modern English, and the remnants of inflection (such as plural marking) have become more regular.…

It is told in the form of a report by a man who came to Nashville on business but whose name we never learn.
