There are mixed reviews on online studying. During my research for articles on this subject, I found that more people are choosing online education instead of being in the traditional classroom setting. This appears to be a trend that in the eyes of some people will gain ground on classroom learning.

Earning a college degree online will benefit mainly people with full time jobs. As Jessica Groach-Santina views it, “This form of education, will allow you to learn on your own schedule, put the skills you need directly into practice on the job and give you the valuable technical knowledge that employers are seeking”.
Steve Lohr wrote in one of his many articles, “online education is providing learning experiences that are more tailored to individual students than is possible in the classroom.”

The Department of Education performed a study last year and found students that did some or all of their courses online ranked higher in test performance than average classroom students. Steve Lohr wrote in his article, Online
Education Beats the Classroom that “over the next few years, online education will expand sharply as evidence mounts of its value”. Philip R. Regier, the Dean of Arizona State University, also feels within the next three to five years the online studies will triple. Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft, also feels more people will be taking classes online.

In one of Steve Lohr’s most recent articles titled “Second Thoughts on Online
Education” he back- tracked on some of the earlier statements he made, “A rush to online education may come at more of a cost than educators may suspect.”
After more research concerning online education was conducted by the National
Science Foundation and the Education Department, one study showed Hispanics and males did notably worse online. David Figlio, an economist at Northwestern
University believes, the reason

As I finish reading ‘The Odyssey’, story that is told by homer a poet who loved to tell stories of the gods and all the adventures and journeys the heroes went through. Odysseus the man who is astute and cares nothing but to get home to Ithaca where there, lies his kingdom, life, wife, and son who he had left when he was just born. While some might argue that Odysseus is not a hero, his decidedly heroic actions outweigh all of his faults because he is dishonest, self-centered, disloyal and disrespectful. He doesn’t care if he puts his man in danger he just wants to come back to Ithaca.…

James E. Porter’s article is reflected in Michael Kleine’s article “What Is It We Do When We Write Articles like This One-and How Can We Get Students to Join Us?’ for both authors stress the argument that no idea is original. Porter and Kleine come to the conclusion that texts are derived from previous texts, which is where the importance of plagiarism comes into play. Porter’s article can be related to Deborah Brandt “Sponsors of Literacy” in the relation of the influence outside sources can possess. Porter emphasizes the control of discourse communities where one gathers to interact with those of similar interest. Brandt’s idea of sponsors can maintain an effect on the sponsored in terms of the targeted area of interest they would prefer to cover. Discourse communities and sponsors interact in the form of involvement from someone other than oneself.…

The revolution in the education sector across the world, which is created by massive use of the internet, is acknowledged by both Head and Friedman. The duos are acknowledging that many students across the world can be reached and access education online. However, there is a feeling that many students especially those from financially challenged backgrounds may be left out (Head, 2013, para. 1). Friedman is arguing that, “massive open online courses can present a scenario of inequalities in education provision.” He further asserts that, “children and students from affluent families will use online courses to augment teaching on campus while their counterparts from the less fortunate families will resort to the use of automated online instruction with little personal guidance (Head, 2013, Para. 2).” This is something that Head shares closely with Friedman as she also raises the concern that many students across the world that she instructs using massive open online courses have little access to the internet.…

Our first essay of Freshman Composition was to write a narrative about something that impacted our lives. I didn’t really know what to expect from this assignment. I knew I could write about my car wreck and give precise details about every little moment. When I started writing, I created a mind map to organize all the details. However, I was worried about my writing skills. I didn’t know what my instructor was expecting from me in this paper. I have never been a strong writer and that really concerned me when it came time to receive a grade. When I turned in the assignment I knew I had a strong detailed and easy to imagine story. However, I knew I was weak with my word choices and grammar. Grammar is the biggest thing that drags me down when I write papers for important classes even though I know my information. Because I knew that before going to write this paper, I looked for resources to help me. I found a website that points out your grammar and spelling mistakes for free. I know you can’t rely on the internet so I would read over it on different days to see if I found something new to correct. This helped in the end because I got a good grade on the paper and did well on grammar.…

Courage means to overcome fear and failure, being inspired to take that next step even if you are afraid. Courage means to push forward even when you feel like you are being held back by a brick wall. This is a description of Luther Gibbs. He had it hard growing up and became an addict at a very young age. He was and is a strict parent but could also make you laugh your head off with one of his farfetched stories of how he met my mom. We would ask him to tell the stories over and over because they were funny and he always changed something in them so you didn’t know what was coming next. Imagination, humor and the ability to make others laugh without trying, Luther Gibbs, the strictest comedian you'll ever meet.…

The key focus of education has been on teaching our children the basics: reading, writing and arithmetic. And in order to meet society’s standards they must be able to function within certain boundaries. So the use of certain devices has had advantages, but with those advantages come certain disadvantages. Not all children have equal access to these devices based upon their schools location and the finances available within certain districts. Their use can be a distraction as well as an attractant depending upon how they are used. As stated in Ecclesiastes 3:4, “there comes a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance….” (Ecclesiastes 3:4). And the same can be said for education, there comes a time when technology has its proper place. Even though technology is an excellent tool, its usage effects the mental, physical and psychological development of our children’s skill sets.…
