Writer at Heart From an early age, I have always loved to write. Writing was my passion, my niche. It was the one thing I could do and do well. I could never play sports; I hated playing piano; I struggled with math. However, when it came to English or writing, the words could not seem to come out of the end of my pen fast enough. I remember starting my first journal at the age of six, but that was by no means the first time I had written anything. Before I could even actually write, I would pretend to write words on scraps of paper as I sat in church or sat in the car during a long ride. Though I do not recall now how old I was at the time, I distinctly remember being desperate to write a book. I wanted to create the ideal character and make her come alive on the pages. Thus, one Sunday afternoon while the rest of my family was asleep, I sat on the edge of my bed with a small legal pad and my favorite feather pen and began to write about who I wanted to be: an imaginary girl named Jenn. The desk I shared with my sister was against the edge of the bed; and I hunched over, feverishly writing and even illustrating page after page. The main character, Jenn, had the ideal life to my childhood self. She had her own room, a huge house, and even her own dog. Anything she wanted she could have. Jenn had too much of a perfect life to be abandoned with only one book about her. I used almost the entire small legal pad just writing and writing some more. I had never gone to the circus; so Jenn went to the circus. I could not have a cell phone; so Jenn had a cell phone. She was not without her struggles, though. Like me, she had an annoying younger brother and a bossy older sister. She had parents that made rules, much to Jenn's dismay. With my favorite pink feather pen, I created an entire world revolving around Jenn and her adventures. Sometimes I used staples; sometimes I used tape to hold the roughly ten-page books
