Prompt: with experience comes change. Texts: Tuesdays with Morrie -the messenger
Statement of intention
In this piece I will be discussing with experience comes change; I will also be using references to Tuesdays with Morrie and The Messenger. Within this piece I will talk about a life experience that has caused change in me and how the size of the experience may not reflect the size of the change. Often in life people will have small experiences that will give them a life lesson and change their lives forever. These experiences could be as small as receiving a hug from a stranger, or as big as someone close to you dying, but either of these could greatly, or hardly change your way of living and viewing all the things around you. That is not to say that you may not benefit at all from some experiences, but in most part you will, and you should try to look at your experiences and view them as lessons. In life small gestures can greatly impact your way of living and how you see thing forever. In Mitch Alboms novel the protagonist Mitch, feels it is wrong to hug and that men should be strong and not hug or have close body contact. So when Morrie, an elderly ex teacher of his, gives him a hug for the first time he is stiff as a board and hardly hugged back” I was shocked at the affection” , but after seeing Morrie get sicker and sicker he discovers that it is fine for grown men to hug and that it doesn’t make him not a man for doing that. In that novel Mitch’s wife comes with him one visit and sings to Morrie this reduces Morrie to tears “Morrie opened his eyes and tears rolled down his checks “this gesture alone is what temped her into becoming a lead singer, from her previous job as a back up singer. Although these experiences may be small, both Jeanine and Mitch changed something about themselves because of them, many people have these kind of experiences everyday, even though they change may be small they

An experience can be defined by events that occur or conditions created by us individuals. These experiences may be frightening to an individual as it may encourage negative discoveries about ourselves, others or society. It is important that we learn lessons from experiences and accept the consequence, whether it may be rewarding or not, the discovery may positively impact and alter an individual’s attitude, behaviours and values. This consequently affects others, creating great sense of acceptance, happiness and improved self-esteem. ‘The Book Thief’ by Markus Zusak portrays the idea that the horrific, threatening experiences that an individual may endure can be consolidated by unconditional love of parents and true friendship. ‘Cats in The Cradle’, a folk song by Harry Chaplin depicts the idea that realisation in itself is an important discovery as it enables an individual to change, having a positive impact on the people around them. The outlook of an individual strongly influences the impact a discovery has on that person, and how they choose to perceive and react it.…

Have you ever been challenged by an experience? Have you ever changed because of this experience? Good morning to the representives of the Board of studies,.... and I wish to justify why the texts I have studied should be kept on the reading list of this module “Into the World”. “The Story of Tom Brennan” by J.C Burke and the feature article of “Sliver Linings” found in the of Sydney Morning Herald’s “The Good Weekend” both emphasise the idea that people are able to come out of difficult situations and see the world from a new perspective.…

As the result of change, an individual is able to be inspired to go through a personal journey which will assist them in finding themselves rather than influence society to change their perspective, however their experiences can bring a societal shift to the stereotypical beliefs of individuals. Throughout Shakespeare's comedic play As You Like It, love is an ongoing catalyst that allows an individual to inspire ones personal journey. In addition, Gwen Harwood's In the Park allows individuals to gain new experiences as a result of the, arguably, negative change into motherhood. This reflects upon how a personal journey can effectively change the stereotypical beliefs that society hold on parenthood. Evident in both these texts, change has played a crucial role in bringing new experiences to individuals which provide them with opportunities to change their attitudes as well as influence the society to.…

Our experiences and the way we react to them shape who we become. Dwelling on a particular event will not help us succeed in life; whether the event be positive or negative. “Turn your mind from the ship, child. It is nothing but a rotting carcass in the grass. The carcass has shocked you with its stink and its flies. But you have walked past it, already, and now you must keep walking” (122). There are events in our lives that will shock us and leave us unsure of what to do, or whether we should keep moving on. These thoughts should not hold us back, as the answer is always to keep moving on; the hardest parts do not last.…

As many of us develop, we may be able to identify those moments when some experience altered our development, or enabled us to view our environment in a different light. These experiences may have been critical in our lives, and have possibly shaped the type of adults we are now, and how we may be in the future. Personally, the experience that molded me into the adult that I am today was a negative experience. It was an experience that was spawned out of jealousy, hatred, rage, and sadness. As I reflect upon this life changing moment, I can’t help but feel as though I am transported back in time as that fearful, timid child dealing with the sorrows of others, and coping with the pain they bestowed upon me.…
