For every presentation, two students would be selected. One would hold a manilla card written with the phrases of the day while the other one would explain the phrases to all the students in the assembly. All in all, the education in universities should be done with English for three reasons. First, students who know English are able to find their favourite job related with their field. Second, they can communicate with others internationally. Third, as a major language in universities, English makes accessing information easy for students. In my opinion, internationally, people need one common language. For many years, English has been the common wold-wide language, and it will be in the future. For this reason, if you want to follow trends, new gadgets and technology, modernization of the developing world, you have to know English whatever age you are in.

During competitions such as choir singing competitions, the committee members often faced the problem that PA system was malfunctioning. The competition could not go smoothly. The malfunctioning of PA system nearly caused the competition to be delayed and could not finish on time.

The competition was carried out on 28th of April, 2011. On that day, all the participants were needed to gather at language room at 9am sharp. Participants were given the topics on the spot. They chose the topics by drawing from a box prepared. 5 minutes was given to them to prepare after they getting their topics respectively. Marks will be allocated on the combination of gesture, the content, the fluency of the speech, and the vocabularies. Ms Jamielah and Mr. Lim were the judges to evaluate the participants’ performances. Some gave up as the topics they got were too difficult and they were not able to think critically for the speech. Meanwhile, some students managed to perform well and they spoke in English fluently. Both panels had the hard time choosing the final winners for the competition. Damian Phun from class 5K emerged as the champion with the score 91 out of 100 marks. He took away hamper worth RM200 and cash RM200. Both judges were stunned with his impressive performance when his turn to deliver the speech.

Meanwhile, 2B won the champion away for the afternoon session. 1M won the first runner up while third place went to 1K. The champion received cash RM 200 and hamper worth RM100. Indirectly this will greatly enhance the discussions among students and establish good relationship among each other.     The FINAL LEAP: SPM 1119 MODULE 2010 is produced with the intention of providing some assistance to English Language teachers in Kedah in preparing their students for the SPM English Language Examination 2010. It grew out of the concern over the unsatisfactory performance in the subject. It aims to provide focused and selected exercises which are accompanied by sample answers and useful notes as well as examination tips. This module consists of four components namely Reading Comprehension and Summary, Literature Component (Novel), Directed Writing and Continuous Writing. These components are deliberately chosen as they carry high weightage in the examination. Each component has a number of thoughtfully selected questions. Based on their teaching and marking experiences, the panel of module developers show, explain and guide how each question should be answered. Practical and handy examination tips are also offered together with sample answers that should allow the average and weak students to score at least the minimum marks in the SPM 1119 Examination. It is the ultimate hope of the Academic Sector (Language Unit), Kedah Education Department that English Language teachers make full use of the practices in this module. Each note and examination tip should be highlighted and reinforced among the students. The Department is confident that the preparation of this module will at least lend a hand to many English Language teachers through its valuable and enriching practices.
