Since the animal’s rebellion against Mr. Jones, life on Manor Farm wasn’t as easy as they had expected. From the beginning, through the animal’s eyes, the pigs were dominant leaders. The pigs were very proud and thought that they were superior to the other animals, especially Napoleon. Since 'Animal Farm' is written as an allegory, the animal characters represent important figures and could hardly be held responsible for their behaviour. For example, the sheep are non-thinking followers by nature in the same way that the pigs are instinctively selfish. In this analysis of what goes wrong on Animal Farm, I will give details on who or what contributed towards the failure.
Specifically, Snowball is blamed for the destruction of the windmill as well as for breaking eggs, smashing windows, and plotting to attack the farm in collusion with the neighbouring farmers. Additionally, Snowball is eventually accused of fighting against the animals of the farm during the "Battle of the Cowshed", despite the fact that it was Snowball who planned the battle and led the animals during that fighting.
The specific accusations made against Snowball are, perhaps, less important than the way in which those accusations are made and the effect they have. Napoleon and Squealer offer no real proof that Snowball has been seen or that he has conspired against the animals of the farm. Instead, Napoleon and Squealer take advantage of the fact that Snowball is gone and cannot defend himself against any accusations.
Napoleon's position as an authority figure allows him to essentially construct truth out of lies. This is the most important idea behind Snowball's (ruined) reputation. The book quotes:
“Whenever anything went wrong it became usual to attribute it to Snowball”
Napoleon loses sight of what his obligations are to the animals on the farm then he becomes a dictator. He did not continue Old Major’s ideas of ‘Animalism’ – all animals were equal. The rules of animalism were already started to be broken. This is a consequence of having only one leader, an unrestricted leader. Democracy is already deteriorating.
Napoleon...Squealer...and Minimus...sat on the front of the raised platform.... The rest of the animals sat facing them on the main body of the barn.
Equality no longer exists on the farm. Napoleon is supreme, he has acquired power, dictatorship, and now nobody can affront him.
Power will always lead to corruption, abuse and manipulation. It is human nature. It has and will always exist. The more Napoleon gets power the more he wants it. Orwell creates the image that Napoleon could be to blame for the failure of Animal Farm because of his desire for power and lack of acknowledgment for the other animal’s rights.

Propaganda is the manipulation of facts and feelings. Throughout the book, Napoleon used propaganda to trick the other farm animals. “Snowball was in league with Jones from the very start!”(Doc D, excerpt 3) By spreading false facts about Snowball, a pig that did not agree with Napoleon’s ways, the animals are convinced that snowball was against them even though he just wanted to help everyone. Napoleon also used propaganda to paint himself as a hero. “ ‘And do you not remember, too, that it was just at that moment, when panic was spreading and all seemed lost, that Comrade Napoleon sprang forward with a cry of ‘Death to Humanity!’ and sank his teeth in Jones’s leg? Surely you remember that, comrades?’ exclaimed Squealer, frisking from side to side.” (Doc E, excerpt 1) Squealer painted Napoleon as a hero and acted as if all those events actually happened. He over exaggerated everything to make it seem like everything really happened that way. Napoleon demanded that everyone call him “our leader”and adopted other names such as, “Father of All Animals, Terror of Mankind, Protector of the Sheep-Fold…” By using these names, taking credit for everyday things, and being displayed as a hero, the animals were tricked into believing Napoleon knew what was best for the them and allowed him to stay in…

One of the many ways that napoleon stays in power is by animalism. Animalism is a government made up by the pigs, it has seven commandments but can be simplified into “Four legs good, two legs bad”. The pigs changed the commandments throughout the story so that the commandments will benefit them and only them. For example there is a rule that no animal shall drink alcohol, and the pigs took it upon themselves to change the rule while they were under the influence themselves! The new rule read(italics mean the new part) ‘no animal shall drink alcohol to excess” The pigs eventually changed all of the commandments into one rule which read” All animals are equal but some are more equal than others”.…

The basic reason for the corruption of the society of Animal Farm was because the pigs were smarter than the other animals, hence, there was a natural inequality that gave the pigs a chance to exploit the other animals. However, those few animals that were smart enough to understand what was going on were unable to stop the pigs because they were afraid of being punished for raising doubts about Napoleon’s supposedly great leadership.…

The animals will have an opposite view from the higher class of “Animalism.” Napoleon gains the minds of the animals through metaphors. Before Napoleon kicked Snowball out of Animal Farm, the whole farm looked up to Snowball, because he was smart in his words and in his ideas. Even after kicking Snowball out, the animals still could not fathom Snowball turning against them. Squealer changes their views of Snowball, telling them that he was a traitor from the very start. Snowball had knocked down their windmill, he tells them. The animals are frightened of Snowball being some kind of “invisible influence.” Because of this rhetoric device, the animals’ views on Snowball changed throughout the book. The pigs succeeded through this propaganda. Soon, Snowball was thought of as an outsider and nothing more than that.…
