They also thought a change need to be made in the government. So instead of Absolute Monarchy, the people thought that Limited Monarchy or Democracy would work better. Mary Wollstonecraft was a philosopher her ideas are one of the major ideas of the enlightenment. She believed women and men should have equal rights. This idea and many more were what influence the American Revolution. The American Revolution was caused by the colonies getting tired of having to pay high taxes on imports of French and Dutch goods; the colonist's thought that the British government was wrongfully taxing them so they revolted and won.
In July of 1776, the Second Continental Congress issued the Declaration of Independence written by Thomas Jefferson. The Declaration of Independence was firmly based on the ideas of John Locke and the Enlightenment. The Declaration reflected these ideas in its clear arguments for natural rights "We hold these truths to be self-evident," states the being of the Declaration of Independence, "that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." The U.S. Constitution was based on ideas that Montesquieu believed in such as the separations of powers into three branches. Also the system of checks and balances was based on the thoughts of Montesquieu. The American Revolution inspired the French that they to could have individual
rights. The Americans Revolution inspired the French Revolution, the people of France thought if they can do it then so can we. Before the Revolution 97% of France was unhappy. These people were the Third Estate; this estate consisted of the middle class, peasants, and the city workers. This estate was unhappy because they were taxed heavily and they rich folks were taxed little. It took two years to form Frances new Constitution. By 1791, the delegates had made significant changes to the government and society. In September of 1791 the New Constitution was complete, which Louis reluctantly approved. This new constitution stripped much of the king's authority away from him. The new form of government would be limited constitutional monarchy. America's influence on Frances new Constitution was huge. The French used John Locke's ideas in there constitution as well.
The Enlightenment was a good thing for everyone, people realized they have rights, they also learned they could reason which meant they could govern themselves. The U.S.A. branched away from the British. France went from sad to happy. The French and Americans both got a Constitution.
Thesis Statement In the 18th century many things changed, people started to realize they could think for themselves, the people also learned they were born with three natural rights life, liberty, and property. The citizens began to fight for these rights, which lead to revolt. The Americans branched away from the British. The French went from absolute monarchy to limited constitutional monarchy.
