I have seen the beauty of nursing first hand and the tragedies also. When I was in the ICU I saw firsthand how impacting nurses can be and knew that once I left the military this was the career I wanted to pursue. I was alone, young, and recently diagnose with a life altering disease. The RN I had not only cared for me but also was there and talked to me when I needed it most. She helped me physically get back to health but also mentally helped me when I had no one by me. I was inspired greatly by how well she did her job. I want to be just a great as the RN that took care of me. I would like to help someone else through difficult times with same level of care I received or better. I have also unfortunately seen the downside to nursing. my uncle pass way after a RN gave him the wrong medication. I lost my favorite uncle to something that could have been prevented. It is very hard dealing a love one passing. It was even more difficult on us because we know if someone payed more attention to detail that he would still be here. I have a great amount of compassion, I have a love for people, and I am able to work under pressure. Nursing is highly rewarding where I can have a huge impact on someone’s life every day. I want to become an example to other veterans that nursing is a great field to get into and we can be everyday hero’s outside of the battle field. I want to be the change and I want to be a part of the future nurses to come. I never want someone to have to go through what I went through with a loved one so I will strive to be an dedicated, reliable, and responsible
