Secara umum, seluruh sistem informasi perusahaan dapat digambarkan kedalam grafik berikut ini :

Dari gambar diatas, dapat dilihat sistem informasi internal perusahaan terdiri dalam 3 kelompok besar :
- ERP adalah sistem inti perusahaan yang mengendalikan semua aspek internal perusahaan.
- SCM adalah suatu sistem informasi untuk memudahkan pengendalian atas supplier.
- CRM adalah sistem informasi untuk melakukan pengendalian atas konsumen perusahaan.

ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning

Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) adalah suatu sistem perencanaan dan penjadwalan dengan alat bantu komputer yang mengintegrasikan seluruh fungsi penjualan, produksi, akunting dan distribusi dengan sasaran untuk mengoptimalkan semua sumber daya material, sumber daya manusia dan kapasitas mesin. Aplikasi ERP biasanya terdiri dari modul-modul seperti Marketing dan Sales, Operasional lapangan, Produksi, Inventory Control, Procurement, Distribusi, Human Resources, Finance dan akuntansi.

Syarat terpenting dari sistem ERP adalah Integrasi. Integrasi yang dimaksud adalah menggabungkan berbagai kebutuhan pada satu software dalam satu logical database, sehingga memudahkan semua departemen berbagi informasi dan berkomunikasi.

Konsep dasar ERP dapat dilihat pada diagram di bawah ini :
