A SMALL STEP TOWARDS CONSERVING ELECTRICITY
In response to the task given to me, regarding fans and lights being left unshut when not in use and a small survey to analyse student mentality and behaviour, I had taken the following steps
Informed people in my hostel to gather in the common room for 5 minutes after dinner (on Sunday, 24-08-2104).
Met people who did not turn up to meet in person
Contacted some of them through WhatsApp

I stay in SR14 hostel, it has 120 rooms (approx. 120 students excluding academic associates)
Of the 120 students , I could contact 83 people
37 students could not be reached the 83 students were reached through (41 students through direct interaction,27 students through a meeting and the remaining 15 through WhatsApp)
Based on the interaction with my hostel mates, the basic trend of electricity usage was figured, as represented in the tables below

Below is a sample table that you can use for this Discussion Board. Replace the sample information with your own information. You may have energy sources not listed in the sample table. If so, be sure to include them. You should delete the instructions prior to uploading your table, or just cut and paste the table in the Discussion Board directly.…

Many Penn Staters are guilty of wasting energy by innocently leaving their rooms, classrooms, and more and not remembering to conserve by turning it all off. Not to mention the commons areas and miscellaneous buildings are lit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Penn State tries it's hardest with it’s very own customized light stickers which are on all switches placed in each vicinity, indicating that the everyone should try to save energy by turning off the lights (which should give them the indication to turn everything else off) before they leave the premises. But those stickers do not happen to be quite effective. One too many times, people leave their rooms, classrooms, labs, etc. with things plugged in, running and lit. There aren't just ceiling lights in the dormitory rooms. Each and every room on Penn State’s campus is guaranteed a microwave and a refrigerator and desks which have lights and outlets on the top. Students tend to own more personal electronics in reference to desk lamps, strobe lights and the number of any other possible energy consuming objects which could lead into a continuous list. Penn State’s Sustainability Team should…

A baseline and two scenarios with different energy performance were created in the modeling software DesignBuilder to calculate the energy consumption for heating and cooling. It resulted in three levels of energy consumption were the baseline had an energy consumption for heating and cooling of 62 kWh/m2-year, first scenario had 57 kWh/m2-year and the second scenario had 35 kWh/m2-year. There is a significant difference in energy performance between baseline and scenario two and this is due to the difference in construction air tightness and heat transfer coefficient for windows, walls, roofs, doors and floors.…

People waste electrical energy because they believe others are also doing so. Similarly, if these people come to know that others are contributing their effort to save energy, they will be more willing to cooperate. Trust in reciprocity is therefore an important factor in dealing with the dilemma of public goods. Expectancy theory also suggests that one’s decision to behave in a certain way is due to their expectation of a desired outcome from that particular behavior. In this case, the desired outcome refers to the practice of switching off unused air conditioner by every resident which eventually result in no increase in dormitory fees. Therefore, educating hall residents about the importance of saving…
