Just think about it this way, we are alive due to our environment, therefore, destroying our environment is untimely destroying…
We put human wants before thinking how it will badly affect the environment. We cut down forests to build houses to live in, buildings to work in, malls to shop in and many other things. By cutting down those forests, we are cutting down the homes of other species because we need the space to build something we, humans, want. We build factories that let out smog in the air to create product we, humans, want or to earn money off of. We seem to think that human life is entirely separate from nature because we don’t see the effects of what we do that harms…
Man inhabitant of the blue planet that filled with wonders and mysteries. Every single organism live in the earth has its own purpose and meaning. Every creature has designed uniquely by the Creator. Leslie Marmon Silko writes in Landscape, History, and the Pueblo Imagination, “The ancient Pueblo people called the earth the Mother Creator of all things in the world” (336). The Creator formed the universe out of nothing; He made the sun, the moon, the start, man and woman, animals, plants, and everything on the earth. Steven Bouma-Prediger writes in Is Christianity Responsible for the Ecological Crisis?, “God made a covenant not only with humans but also with our non-human neighbors- indeed, with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as come out of the ark.” (315). Bouma-Prediger acknowledges God as the Creator created the creation. Man and the…
We are destroying our environment only to change our surroundings into what we think is more esthetically pleasing. I agree with Thompson’s evaluation of the Nacerima culture and behavior. We cannot exist on only man made products. By altering our environment we are changing the quality of the very things we need for our survival. Everything that we do has an impact on something else. The cars that we conveniently drive every day are contaminating the air in which we breathe. Not convinced? Just take a look at global warming. We are responsible.…
Certainly, God did not give man the authority to degrade and destroy His earth. Environmentalists are correct in saying that mankind should consider and address environmental concerns. They are quite wrong, however, to blame God for the earth's ecological problems; He is not responsible for man's destruction of the natural world.…
All hero journeys begin with the departure. Here the hero will encounter a call to adventure and become aware of a certain problem, leaving the world they are used to. The hero will experience feelings of fear and perhaps refuse to find a solution to the problem. They will have to overcome this fear in order to take the next step towards reaching a psychological transformation. Overcoming their fear will sometimes be assisted by some sort of mentor or a supernatural aid. Stories like The Iliad and The Epic of Gilgamesh have examples of heroes that undergo these steps. In The Iliad, Achilles leaves his home in Greece to serve in the Trojan War as his call to adventure. He refuses to go to war because he was afraid…
On California’s political calendar, physician-assisted suicide is considered to be a “done-deal” as the End-of-Life Option Act (SB 128) has many supporters. Their message is clear: like women’s suffrage, gay marriage, and higher minimum wage, it's inevitable that physician-assisted suicide becomes legal because, after all, it is a human right to make that decision.…
This is intended as a study guide. For best results, I recommend studying all the material first, then filling out the worksheet “closed-book/notes” as if taking a test. When done, go back to your notes to check your answers.…
As stated by Erin Brokovitch - an American legal clerk and environmental activist, "We are destroying what we need to survive. It's air. It's water. When we destroy these things, we destroy ourselves.”…
The first group of experts believes that human interaction with the planet is in no way harmful. They stand on the grounds that the planet will be able to recover from any exploitation man performs on it. Earth has an automatic system to correct itself from factors that might threaten it. This homeostatic process guarantees its existence regardless of how drastic, harmful, or negative human actions might come to be. It can correct itself through balancing any harmful changes. Earth has “automatic processes to preserve itself from changes” (Moore 45).…
Humans have been living and making modifications to the earth since the beginning of time. Looking back many years ago we can see that way of life was not as fast paced as today. However as our population continues to grow and we continue to inhabit this planet, we are subconsciously and consciously destroying our precious environment with the goal to make life easier while producing economical benefits. Even though environmentalist continue to warn us of the consequences and dangers our daily activities cause the environment, such as our over consumption of natural resources. The future of our earth remains uncertain due to the detrimental effects that arise from individuals quest for fulfilment, economic advancement…
The environmental destruction that the world faces today is undoubtedly due to man and an anthropocentric worldview that places human needs and wants above all others. We face climate change, rising seas, ocean acidification, deforestation, massive extinction, and other devastating environmental problems because man is valued over nature. This problem is especially pronounced in Western capitalist and consumerist culture. Christianity is often cited as inherently opposed to the environmental…
The first reason I think this is because when we uphold anthropocentric ideals, we toss the environment to the curve, and as a result all of creation suffers. Second, I believe that when we live for exclusively our own self-interest, we only speed up the process of ecological destruction. If we shared our “stuff” and food with each other and the rest of the world, we could significantly reduce our impact. Third, I believe that even if we are ethical and environmentally conscious as individuals, it will not be enough. If one is sold on ecological salvation but still clings to individual self-interest, then they won’t have the ability to create serious and measurable change. The example of one farmer out of several deciding not to dump waste in a close by water reserve rings true to this idea. Community interaction and a removal of our attachment to our own private benefits is essential in working towards a better cleaner earth.…
The Earth is under threat as it has never been before. From the activities of a world population which doubled from three to six billion in four short decades and will probably increase by three billion more. These activities are now wiping out ecosystems and species across the world.…
The earth has formed arduously over billions of years, going through continental drifts, volcanic eruptions and cooling, growth of organisms and successions spanning over a million years and various other processes, to become the habitable planet that it is today. There is a ‘sphere’ (hydro-, litho- or atmo-) for every living being to live in, and the entire earth belongs to every organism on earth- The ecocentric belief. It is, however, the anthropocentric and its corresponding technocentric belief that has begun what can only be called an Environmental Crisis.…
