Brainstorm the 5 Paragraph Essay

The Formal Research Essay is not something to be afraid of. In fact a formal essay can be a quite easy task IF YOU PLAN. The first step in your planning is coming up with an idea or a topic that you can write on. To make it easy on yourself, you should pick a topic that interests you or that you have lots of prior knowledge about.

In the box below brainstorm 10 different topics that range from pastimes (such as snowmobiling), to particular music groups, to hobbies, that interest you.

Write down as many specifics or particulars that you can think of in the box below (minimum of 5 for each topic). Try to be as specific as possible.

Congratulations! You have just completed what some consider to be the most difficult task about writing; generating a topic, and specifics that deal with that topic. From your now completed list of two topics with their three good specifics, you will now have to choose one from which to write on. Keep in mind that you will probably want to choose the one that you think will be the easiest to research.
