Environmental scans play a crucial role in the strategic planning process by helping organizations take a look at their competitive advantages and identify ways to sustain the advantages. Wheelen and Hunger (2010) describes environmental scanning as “the monitoring, evaluation, and dissemination of information from external and internal environments to key people within the corporation” (p. 10). Metrics or measuring tools are implemented in order to measure or track the progress of a strategic plan. Internal and external factors help an organization in the decision -making process of its future state. Internal factors surround strengths and weaknesses and external factors identify the potential threats and opportunities outside of the organization’s span of control.…

The two companies that will be the focus of this paper are Anheuser-Busch Companies and Coors Brewing Company (Coors). As of 2009, these two companies held 50.4 percent and 10.8 percent of the U.S. beer market, respectively[1]. The compound annual growth rate of the market value of the U.S. beer industry between 2005 and 2009 was 0.4 percent, reaching $77.6 billion in 2009, while the market volume grew at an even lower 0.2 percent reaching a volume of 24 billion liters.[2] Until 2002, the three major players within the industry, Anheuser-Busch, Coors and Miller Brewing Company, were domestically owned and together earned 75 percent of the industry revenues. This paper focuses on the U.S. beer industry and competitive strategies of two focal companies Anheuser-Busch and Coors, prior to 2009, before global giant InBev acquired Anheuser-Busch. Despite the dominant position of Anheuser-Busch, the different strategies pursued by these two organizations will draw different reactions from each firm, should a significant event impact them. This report highlights the differences in those reactions by (1) presenting an overall view of…

    The Live Scan System

Before the live scan system was used, we used the good old paper and ink method. Contrary to popular belief the ink and paper is used more often than you think. On one of my deployments, in Afghanistan we used ink and paper for clearances, watch list suspects, visas, and suspects in an actual attempted murder. We did not have any new technology over there. So we brought almost 100 people to be finger printed by ink and paper. I assure you with that experience I have a new found affection towards the live scan system. Currently at Peterson Air Force Base we also use the ink method. However, at the Visitor Control Center we use a scanning device called SecuGen Hamster IV. It takes one picture of the pad of the finger then asks you to lift that finger and recapture the same print. One flaw to our scanner is when the two images are compared, if they do not match up you must restart the process. This can be very time consuming especially when we print all visitors entering the base. Being in Colorado with such a dry climate can also have an effect on people’s skin. I have found older adults have dryer hands and cracked finger…

With the 6 weeks she has before the job and meeting with the team she went back to everything that Tom said to her. Having a team of intern members, the company has an advantage of having insights from different set of eyes and perspectives without costing the company a lot. Furthermore, there will be a parallel in-house team performing a similar analysis. The task is to communicate the findings from the environmental scan to the organization. Debbie wondered, where should she begin? She only has 6 weeks before the first day of job. While waiting it, Debbie should start with her game plan. According to the article, Debbie will be leading 5 smart and outstanding students therefore she should prepare herself to be a leader and a woman of vision. Preparing one’s self is sometimes neglected by most leaders that’s why in the middle of their jobs they cram and breakdown. Although some will say that it is so shallow but it is still important to the preparation. After dealing with oneself, Debbie should focus on the terms and information that Tom told her. Listing all the details and requirements that the project need to accomplish will help Debbie achieve those without…

The thing that I did was analyze soil to see if bacteria could live in that environment. The reason why I did it was because I wanted to find out where in the environment bacteria and fungi can live. In order to do my study I had to collect a sample of soil and put it in a dish. After I did that I could look at it underneath a microscope. I found that bacteria did in fact live in the soil so the soil was a sustainable environment for the bacteria to live.…

Every year a new update for the iPhone is released and following that is the release of the actual new and improved phone, in this case the iPhone 6 and 6 plus. On September 24th, 2014, Apple launched the iOS 8.0.1. update, available to all phones, new and old. This update did the opposite of what it was intended to do by disabling cellphone service on an untold number of iPhones among some other small issues. This faulty feature affects my client’s negatively yet not drastically. Many individuals have released complaints over twitter and tech news discussing the problems occurring with their phones. This update was originally intended to fix the original bugs that came with the iPhone. Instead of claiming a potential crisis my client has decided to pull the update from having the ability to be downloaded until each and every bug in the system is fixed. My client stated, “We are actively investigating these reports and will provide information as quickly as we can, in the meantime we have pulled back the iOS 8.0.1. update.” This statement has now answered media questions that could potentially be asked shining a negative light on my client.…
