Enzymes help break up food in our stomach into smaller particles. They are found in proteins, cells, and medications. Enzymes help modify covalent bonds in chemical reactions so that it’s converted into another molecule (Lab Manual 3 pg. 1). The molecules that enzymes are bonded to are called substrates (Essential Cell Biology pg. 92.). Which makes an enzyme bonded to the substrate called an enzyme-substrate complex. Enzymes tend to bond to …show more content…
All glassware that was being used had to be cleaned so that other old substances did not interfere with the outcome of the results. This experiment included an unknown phosphatase buffer solution and enzymes A and B. The experiment had two sections. In Part A, a colorimetric assay was conducted by using a spectrophotometer. The substance was a clear, colorless liquid that turned yellow. This reaction occurred because p-nitrophenyl phosphate had a phosphate group removed to produce p-nitrophenyl (Lab 3 pg. 6). In this experiment there were Buffer solutions ranging from pH 5-11 (not including 9), that were used to help determine in the end what the unknown phosphatase actually was. Each cuvette used was properly labeled. (In every experiment, there should be some form of organization so that an accurate result can be
