Epic Hero
pic Hero: Comparison
Would you believe me if I told you that heroes really do exist? And that I know one hero who actually saves the day without using super power. Well, this is the story of Batman.
Batman is unlike many superheroes; he has no super powers, instead relies on his knowledge of science, detective sills and athletic abilities. No one but his butler, HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfred_Pennyworth" \o "Alfred Pennyworth" Alfred Pennyworth, however for I can tell you who he actually is. He is Bruce Wayne. The world’s greatest, wealthiest detective and business man. He is the last person you would’ve imagined.
You may know that batman lives in Gotham city and every time people need his help he is summoned with a bat-signal, a search light with a bat shape pointing at the sky and the light goes on every time he is needed. Batman fights with many super-villains, Cat woman, the Riddler, Poison ivy, Two-face and his archy enemy the Joker a inane looking clown. Commissioner Gordon also has a phone line connected to a bright red telephone which sits on a wooden base and has a transparent cake cover on top. The line connects directly to Batman's residence.
You may be wondering where Batman lives. He is Bruce Wayne but when Bruce Wayne becomes Batman they don’t live in the same house. Batman lives underground, a place he called the bat cave, where he hides the bat mobile, fabulous weapons, information and identity. The bat cave is opened from a HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hidden_door" \o "Hidden door" hidden door in Wayne Manor's study behind a non-functioning clock, which opens to a staircase, when clock are turned to 10:47 p.m the door opens, this was time his parents where killed, Thomas and Martha Wayne.

Bruce Wayne lives off his family's personal fortune and the profits of HYPERLINK "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Enterprises" \o "Wayne Enterprises" Wayne Enterprises, a major private technology firm that he inherited.

The novel, Wayne of Gotham by Tracy Hickman explores the ancestry of Bruce Wayne while utilizing his detective skills. I chose this book because Batman is my favorite character and I think that the graphic novels along with books paint a broader picture of the character. Batman is after all, the world’s “best detective” in the DC Comics world. The story starts in the cave with Bruce Wayne’s grandfather teaching his son Thomas Wayne to be a man by shooting the creatures of the night “bats” with a gun (Hickman, 2012, pp. 1-5). The story is definitely for avid fans of Batman, but can be enjoyed by newcomers. Bruce Patrick Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth and Detective James Gordon are players in a story that unravels a dark hidden secret of the Wayne…

“It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no its Superman!” For decades comic book characters such as Superman, The Incredible Hulk, Batman, and Wonder Woman have captured the imaginations of American children and adults alike. “Superheroes,” they have been coined. But these figures only exist in our imaginations. Batman is not really there to save us from villains such as the Joker and the Riddler. Because these heroes are fictional, we are left without real life heroes… or are we? The answer is clearly no. Heroes are all around us. They can be courageous, intelligent, strong or daring, but heroes to me are selfless and brave.…

Is Batman a real super hero, according to a lot of people they would say he is not and when you would ask for a reason why not; they will usually always give the same reason that he can’t be one since he has no super power. But I’m writing this paper to show that a superhero isn't necessarily defined by his powers, but rather, his zeal for fighting crime and his innate ability to do so. Batman may not have super human powers but he shares every other trait that other super heroes have that define them. As well another example of why we may consider Batman to be a real super hero is Lex Luthor, Lex does not have any super powers but he is defiantly a super villain, thus with him being a super villain how could we not agree to Batman being a super hero.…

As mentioned earlier, Batman and Superman eventually start to fight, as Batman calls him a sellout for letting the government abuse of his powers. In the scene batman utters, “And it has to end here on this filthy patch street, where my parents died” (190, 4). Batman is referring to crime alley where he eventually dies of a heart attack, the same place where his origin or initially “birth” began. It was the heart drive and tenacity that made him who he is Batman. However, in this cased his own will and heart has failed to make him achieve another victory. Ironically, on his return to crime alley, he received a loss where he is portrayed as the “criminal” and has been defeated by the national heroic figure of Superman that that the government prefers.
