Topic: tribute to chew chor meng
Specific purpose: to tell the audience how important it is to have a positive outlook in life
Introduction
When you look at the actors and actresses on television shows, their lives seems so smooth sailing and happy. Do you really think that’s always the truth? As the saying goes, “Never judge a book by its cover”.
Same goes for them. We will never know what’s going behind the scenes.
Today, I would like to make this tribute to one of my favorite artist, Chew Chor Meng.
Chew Chor Meng is a MediaCorp artiste. He appeared in television series such as Mr Kiasu, Don 't Worry Be Happy and Springs of Life. He started his career as an actor after winning Star Search in 1990, a bi-annual nationwide talent search. Since then, he has never failed to make it to the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes in Star Awards, an award ceremony for TV personalities, since its inception in 1994.
His favourite sports were running and skipping.
You may have realized I used the word “were”.
Now, he’s not able to do so. In 2008, he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy; a genetic disorder which the muscles in the body weakens over time and ultimately loses its functionality. The doctors told him that he had only two years to live, and ask him to spend more time with his children. However, 5 years later, he’s still alive now, hosting in shows such as Silver Carnival and he’s currently filming for an upcoming channel U show, Served H.O.T.
How did he manage to break that prediction? Most of you will think it is because of the medicine he ate and treatments that he went for. However, there’s one more important factor that contributes to his improvement in health. The wonder medicine: being positive.
Body
Just take a minute and think.
You have been walking normally for your whole life.
