Epilogue To George Orwell's Animal Farm
“Friends, let us meet at the windmill. I have something to tell you all,” said Benjamin outraged. All the animals followed him. Some because they knew what he was going to say, others because they were confused. “I have lived a lot longer than most of you standing here today, but I cannot stand by and watch this anymore. We no longer live on a free farm. I think we have all known that for a very long time, but we have all been so intimidated by Napoleon that no one has stood up to him. That is until now. Before the rebellion we were ruled by humans and now we are back to square one and are ruled by ‘humans’ once again. One of the hens said, “You have it all wrong. Napoleon and the other pigs are leading us.” “Did you not see inside the farm house?” Benjamin asked, “Humans and pigs are just alike now. In fact, the only difference is the pigs treat us worse. That is why we have to turn against them. We have to rebel or we’ll all end up dead within a few months. We will need help.”
“I know someone who can help.”
No one knew where the voice came from. From the dark shadow of a tree, Boxer and Snowball appeared. All the animals jumped for joy as they ran toward Boxer.
“Boxer, Boxer! We thought you were dead. They took you to a slaughter house. How did you escape?” one of the cows asked excitedly. …show more content…
I saw Napoleon kill all those innocent animals. I felt so terrible and helpless that I couldn’t save my fellow comrades. With that feeling I created my own army. I went to other farms to find others with the same ideas as I have. I found man brave animals who I have trained in the ways of Animalism. When I saw Napoleon send Boxer away I knew he had betrayed him. As they were taking him away in the van I ran as quickly as I could to save him. I caught up with the van, broke the lock and set Boxer free. The humans searched for us after that so we had to lay low. I helped him build up his strength and now we are ready to stand up to

    The pigs slowly started to do the same things that Mr. Jones did. They took all the milk because they felt they needed it more. They list Seven Commandments on the barn wall, which the pigs have developed from the teachings of old Major. The Commandments suggest that whatever is human is an enemy, that whatever is animal is a friend, and that all animals are equal. The first indication that all are not equal, however, occurs when the pigs set themselves up as the leaders and take for themselves, the milk. Napoleon trains young puppies, which he took from their mother at birth, to grow into fierce mean enforcers. Napoleon then later uses these enforcers to get rid of Snowball so he alone can dictate the farm. Then we have Squealer, another pig who convinces the animals that the pigs deserve certain special privileges because they work harder than the rest of the animals.…

    Often through his influential representative, Squealer, Napoleon routinely lies to the unintelligent animals. For instance, he alters the story of the Battle of the Cowshed to paint himself as a heroic figure. In actuality Napoleon accomplishes nothing remarkable during the battle, but Squealer later convinces the other animals otherwise: “Do you not remember… [how] when panic was spreading and all seemed lost, that Comrade Napoleon sprang forward with a cry of ‘Death to Humanity!’ and sank his teeth in Jones’s leg?” (81). Although Napoleon commands his followers’ admiration, he does not deserve that respect, for he obtains it deceitfully. He also conceals his own shortcomings by persuading the other animals to blame Snowball, whom he banished from Animal Farm, for all of the farm’s misfortunes. “Whenever anything went wrong it became usual to attribute it to Snowball” (78). By slandering Snowball, Napoleon deviously establishes himself among the other animals as the only fitting leader for Animal Farm. Admittedly, one instance of Napoleon’s trickery averts an attack on the farm when food supplies run low. “Napoleon was well aware of the bad results that might follow if the real facts of the food situation were known, and he decided to make use of Mr. Whymper to spread a contrary impression” (75).
