Epinephrine Secretion Lab Report
 Introduction: The regulation of body temperature is called thermo-regulation. It is the ability of any organism to maintain the temperature of its body at normal level even when the temperature of the external environment is fluctuating. The normal temperature of the body of humans is approximately 37◦C or between the 98◦F-100◦F and it is called its core body temperature. This core temperature usually remains the same within a very short range of variations. This core temperature only changes from its normal value when body is in any diseased condition. So whenever the body temperature rises or falls from this normal value, it needs to be regulated through different processes and then a very active role is played by the body’s thermostat …show more content…
The detail of these responses can be summarized as:

 Responses to Cold: When the temperature of our surroundings is low, it gives us a sensation of coolness and temperature of our body surface decreases immediately. In this case, the receptors sensitive to cold are activated and produce heat that is transferred to the blood flowing in the vessels underneath the skin. This heat then lessens the cooling effect. The hypothalamus performs very active function in this regard as the sympathetic responses are produced as a result of cold receptors activation. These responses are as follows:
Epinephrine Secretion occurs from the adrenal medulla. This Epinephrine hormone produces heat and reduces the sensations of cold in the body.
Nor-epinephrine Release takes place in such situation. This hormone is released from the sympathetic fibers and it causes the constriction of vessels whih results in the activation of heat production and inhibition of heat loss processes. Ultimately body gets warmed.
Piloerection occurs. It is also a very significant process for warming the body as it causes the erection of hairs on the skin and help to trap heat in it. In this way body also receives

    In mammals a constant body temperature is maintained using the part of the brain called the hypothalamus, this detects information from thermoreceptors about the internal and external temperatures. The changes in the internal temperature is detected by thermoreceptors which are located in the hypothalamus and detect the temperature of the blood, while there are thermoreceptors which are located in the skin which detect any changes in the external temperature. The changes which are detected by the thermoreceptors are sent as impulses along sensory neurones to the hypothalamus where corrective measures can then be put in place by sending signals to effectors. Depending on whether temperature needs to be increased or decreased to return to normal levels depends on the mechanisms which are used to do this. For example to increase the body temperature vasoconstriction is one technique which the body uses, this involves the narrowing of blood vessels retaining the body temperature. Less sweating, hairs standing up right and shivering are also used to help increase the body temperature. To decrease the body temperature vasodilatation is used, it widens the blood vessels increasing the blood flow to the surface of the skin and therefore helping to reduce body temperature.
