1.0 INTRODUCTION & BACKGROUND
The Equality Act 2010 is an act of Parliament of the United Kingdom which makes provisions and sets the requirements for strategic decision makings by Ministers of the Crown and others. These provisions govern the exercise of functions of the Ministers of the Crown with regards to:
• The desirability of reducing socio-economic inequalities
• Reforming and harmonising equality law and restate the greater part of the enactments relating to discrimination and harassment related to certain personal characteristics
• Enabling certain employers to be required to publish information about the differences in pay between male and female employees
• Prohibiting victimisation in certain circumstances

The Equality Act 2010 mirrors and implements the provisions of the Equal Treatment Directives. The Equal Treatment Directive is an Act enacted by the European Union which aims at establishing the principle of gender equality in the European Union labour law. The Equal Treatment Directives provides four major goals which the Equality Act 2010 seems to implement ().
However, the Equality Act 2010 was primarily enacted to simplify the Acts and Regulations including the Sex Discrimination Act 1975, the Equal Pay Act 1970, the Disability Discrimination Act 1995, the Race Relations Act 1976, and three major statutory instruments which formed the foundation of anti-discrimination law in Great Britain. The Equality Act 2010 was established to protect discrimination in employment on grounds of religion or belief, sexual orientation and age. It requires equal treatment in access to employment as well as private and public services, regardless of the protected characteristics of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual
