Equality In Everyon Anthem, By Ayn Rand

When Honore de Balzac said, “Equality may perhaps be a right, but no power on earth can ever turn it into a fact,” he meant that the idea of equality could never be a fact because the world isn’t always fair. There will be a time and a place when someone is thought of as different or someone acts distinctive compared to the people around them. Human nature is to think of them as different and exclude them for being something other than them. Eventually, you’ll find someone in a sea of people that will look different. This individual is likely a misfit and is teased for being unique compared to others. Words are words, and actions are actions. People can say things, but never act upon the situation. In the book, everyone is given the same treatment and thinks of every man as his brother. Everyone has to agree with ideas before they can become laws or everyday items. Equality is banished for creating a mechanism that he didn’t inform his brothers about. Due to this, he leaves the land and travels into the unknown areas past the city limits. It is here that he discovers what freedom truly is and is summed up perfectly with this quotation by the narrator, “To be free, a man must be free from his brothers” (Pg. 53). Being free from other people allows a person to explore freely because no one is there to tell them not to do something or change their mind. When a person doesn’t have any restrictions, they have the ability to do what they truly want to do. There might be a little hypocrisy in the story. Although they say that everyone is their brother and that there is equality, why are there a select few that make the most important decisions and a board of people that are supposedly the best scholars? No matter who says that everyone is to be treated equal, there will always be someone that is thought of as better than
