Equine Center

An Equine Center has various small components that make up the overall design and layout. Studying different facilities enables our group to analyze what works well, and what can be excluded from our design concepts. The Victory Therapy Center in Roanoke, Texas is a prosperous center that gives unique approaches to therapy and has additional counseling sessions they offer with horses. Their goal is to “care for the physical, mental, and emotional needs of children, adults, Veterans… through the healing power of horses”. To begin, the placement of the stables and arena are carefully thought out to have a welcoming and warm environment as the patients drive into the property. In addition, they offer Horses for Heroes, which focuses on helping military veterans and their families. The overall design of their equine center is simplistic. They use open concepts and spaces to engage the outdoors, and not have the patients feel confined. All these aspects are able to help better understand what design strategies work well for the Phoenix Center Equine Facility. An open layout that interacts with the outdoors is one goal, including having natural sunlight and ventilation. This could be included within the arena, as well as different parts of the office and barn structures. Also, having the open pasture able to be viewed from all over the facility and camp to create that same sense of calm and serene atmosphere as the Victory Therapy Center created. To close, equine therapy and counseling is able to open the minds and hearts of humans, and can help tremendously with the healing process of traumatized children. The Victory Therapy Center is a great example of this, and the Phoenix Equine Facility can learn and grow from
