Treatments for erectile dysfunction include oral medications such as Staxyn, Viagra, Cialis and Levitra. These pills work directly on the penis by unwinding smooth muscles in the penis. This allows the arteries to enlarge and blood to circulate to the penis. Side effects of these oral medications include headaches, blurred vision and indigestion.
Another treatment for men with erectile dysfunction is penile prosthesis. These devices are bendable or inflatable and are surgically inserted within the erection chambers of the penis. Penile implants are typically used when there are clear medical causes of erectile dysfunction and when it is unlikely that the problem will be resolve naturally or with other treatments. Sexual intercourse can be resumed six weeks after surgery.
