Question from tutorial
2. Can gene flow prevent or speed up evolution
a. with divergent selection between populations, gene flow will reduce levels of adaptation (and slow the evolution of adaptation)
b. gene flow can introduce variation, and thus speed evolution and adaptation
c. gene flow can prevent the evolution of reproductive isolation, and speciation

From last lecture
1. Clarifying: Mendel’s Laws and where your sitting spot…
The explanation of the sitting spot corresponds to the “Law of
Independent Assortment”
Traits coded by genes located on different chromosomes are inherited independently
Not to Mendel’s “Law of segregation”
“members of each pair of factors (alleles) controlling a trait in an individual separate into different haploid gametes”

Critical epigenetic concepts
Epigenome: Set of chemical marks in an individual’s genome that affects in gene expression. This set of marks is heritable but can be modified by environmental exposures.
