Paigee Keize 11/24/14 It is needless to say that women are beyond strong. We carry life within us and often are responsible for making sure that all aspects of life are where they should be. Women of past centuries had to deal so much turmoil and face so much adversity, especially women of color. The women who I would call my auntie or grandma are bursting with stories that help to explain why they are fearless.…

We were just talked exactly what Akiva Goldsman, a movie producer, said: “the truth is, it’s not what happens to us. It’s what we do with it.” We cannot change what has happened to us, but we can change how we accept realities and how we deal with them. I have a friend who comes to me to say “my life sucks.” She always takes anything negatively even if what has happened to her doesn’t seem that bad for my other friends and I. Talking to her has reminded me that depends on how we look at an event, one’s life can be totally different.…

    Martin Seligman Analysis

It is genuinely fascinating how prosperous individuals approach problems. Where others see impenetrable obstacles, they see problems to embrace and barriers to overcome. Their confidence in the face of hardship is steered by the ability to let go of the negative attitude that holds most individuals back. A research done by Martin Seligman at the University of Pennsylvania shows that success in life is driven by one key element, whether you have the belief that your failures are produced by your personal deficits beyond your control or that they are mistakes you can fix with effort. Success is not the only thing determined by your way of thinking. Seligman has found much greater rates of depression in people who attribute their failures to personal deficits. Positive thinking individuals fare better because they treat failure as a learning experience. They also believe they can do great in the future. Retaining the success mindset is not simple. There are things that specifically shatter it. These problems drag people down because they appear to be obstacles that cannot be overcome. However, this is not so for the successful ones as these problems never hold them back;…

It’s extraordinary to think about how we take so much for granted - another belief we take for granted is that every night the stars will shine. When you wake up in the morning and make plans for the day, you never really contemplate those plans changing entirely in the blink of an eye. I had never thought much about it, personally, until I was faced with Death himself. I don't think anyone really contemplates tragedy until it knocks on their front door. In fact, it doesn’t even knock – it forces itself in and threatens to leave you with nothing but heartache and suffering for the remainder of your miserable life. Traumatic events can occur in numerous ways, at any time in one’s life. Some are lucky enough to get away with them. Unfortunately, I was not one of the lucky.…

    Bible Strength

In the bible there is one example of strength that caught my eye and it was the story of David and Goliath. David a measly kid wanted to fight a giant like Goliath, and with all odds against him he fought and killed him with the power of god and his sword. Believing in yourself when no one else does is the key to success; he wasn’t going to beat him thinking that he was weak. This and many other stories go to show believing in yourself is all you need, not the approval of others. If people today could just stop worrying what the numbers are, and just know that if they put their mind to it they can do anything there would be a lot more…

Every day we are given a fresh start; another chance to move forward in our lives and accomplish the things we thrive to achieve day to day. A new day can also liberate us from our past mistakes and provide us with a chance to change our ways. We are all faced with misery and misfortune at points in our lives, some more than others. We must recognize that it is not the burden in itself that shapes who we are, but how well or how poorly we deal with the difficulties. Sometimes misfortunes can be seen in a negative light; because it seems unjust, therefore we response in a negative matter, and become negligent to change. Overcoming tragic events is what truly counts, for we are meant to live happily and in acceptance that there are things that we cannot change. In many cases, individuals seem to feel as though they’ve lost an amount so great that they are unable to free themselves of the pain. This perspective often leads to further suffering. A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahou and Kiss Me by Andrew Pyper demonstrate a loss of identity, negligence towards communication, and eventually leading to the destruction of a relationship.…

Perseverance , patience and dedication leads to success, success does not mean reaching set goals but gaining something that is more beneficial. Perseverance is shown in “The Happiest Refugee” where the Anh and his family had all there sewing machines stolen this did not stop them they acted as soon as they needed to and I quote “there is now or too late” this shows that they are strong that they have the power to knock anything down even thought life put them to their knees.
