Personally, I think that any form of abortion is tantamount to murder, and should never be permitted. This article only brings to my attention that women who wish to have abortions are only concerned for themselves, as the argument is based upon the health of the woman. Although the author’s argument may be valid concerning some facets of the issue, I believe the focus of the subject should shift from the mother to the living creature inside and its right to…

“Between a Woman and Her Doctor” by Martha Mendoza is the author’s personal experience of a complex abortion while dealing with the difficulties of legal disputes and limited medical assistance during an emotional time in her life. Mendoza uses the expressive purpose as she writes her story to express her depressing and frustrating feelings she has during the death of her child as well as the challenging time as she tries to obtain a dilation and extraction procedure. Her secondary purpose is persuasive as she describes a change to be made in the set-in-stone policy regarding abortion and the need for more doctors to have the necessary training to perform abortions after sixteen weeks of pregnancy as doctors are becoming more obsolete to perform that type of surgery.…

Abortion is a term used for the termination of the pregnancy by removing of the embryo or the fetus from the uterus of a woman. The abortion takes place in two ways. It can be induced abortion or it can be spontaneous abortion. In the induced abortion, the pregnancy is aborted intentionally, but the spontaneous abortion take place of its own due to some natural or accidental reasons. But whatever be the reason, the word abortion is always a burning issue in the society and politics. In the United States, abortions were legalized after the case Roe v. Wade, 1973 ruled that laws banning abortion were unconstitutional. Since then, groups supporting the right to abortion (“pro choice”) and groups against abortion (“pro life”) have continued to have ideological battles over which argument should be the law of the land. However, a woman is best capable of deciding whether or not she is able and willing to care for a child. Thus, she should similarly be able to decide whether or not she wishes to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.…

Even though abortions are illegal it doesn’t stop women conducting their own, with 68,000 women a year dying through unsafe abortions or suffering from long term health complications such infections and genital trauma, all of which are consequence of the current legislation. Reasons why women choose to abort this way is due to that they don’t have access to the facilities that insure safe procedures therefore are left with a no choice but to put themselves at a risk. Another consequence of the current legislation is that women are not held equally within the law, as it restricts women of the rights over their bodies, yet there are no current laws that exhibit these same unjust controls over men. This failure by the government to recognise this, has caused “gender-specific harm”, as it confines women to either two groups when antenatal, that being either pregnant or deviant. Therefore, not only causing mental and physical consequences, for women but social…
