Introduction
Conceptual framework
The purpose of the case study is to examine competitiveness of the company, its interaction with external environment and estimate potential for sustainable growth. In order to achieve the goal, three sources of information related to sustainability and corporate social responsibility of businesses generally and applied for the Baltics region were used. The three sources are “Shadow Economy Index for the Baltic countries 2009-2012” by T. Putnins and A. Sauka, “Sustainability and Business Competitiveness” by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and “Measuring the Competitiveness of Small Businesses” by L. Szerb and S. Terjesen.
First of all, since our case study is based on interview of the manager of the company, a proper methodology on how the interview should be conducted had to be found. Shadow Economy Index by T. Putnins and A. Sauka has suggested the gradual method for conducting an interview as it is considered to be more truthful. This means that initially we were asking questions concerning evaluation of environment the company was working in. This was made by asking such questions as how fast changing the market is, how fast companies respond to changes of government regulations and similar questions. Afterwards, we were concerning on the issue of competitiveness of the company in the already described environment. In this part of the interview the manager was asked questions regarding evaluation and positioning of his company in the market. Finally, questions regarding long term sustainability of the company were asked. These included such questions as what personal features of the CEO of the company allows considering the company sustainable in the long run, how current
