Reminiscing back four years ago to my first year as a freshman at Northridge Academy High School, I’ve learned and realized that I have truly matured as a person morally and as an intellectual individual as well. As a freshman to a high school, I stepped into a new learning environment not knowing what to expect from my classmates nor my academics, but it would only be the beginning of a life changing experience. I came to school with an empty mind of thoughts and I only truly cared about having my friends around me and having them for my classes as well. Throughout the years at NAHS, I gladly accepted to become a bit less social and become much more serious mentally and emotionally as well, instead of focusing on little unimportant situations in life. Soon I came to realize that high school was an important part of my journey towards learning and acquiring new knowledge and skills that will come in handy towards pursuing my career. These past three years have taught me that hard work pays off, that I will always have an open mind towards learning and differences, and that I will always maintain a positive attitude within myself so I can achieve and be a successful person. As a powerful thinker I made a decision to do better in my junior year of high school. I could not change the pass of my freshman and sophomore year, were I truly believed that D’s were a real “passing” grade and would get extremely excited when my report card had written C / S / S on it. I recalled my mother screaming at me because I didn't like school and I would never do my homework. Teachers complained about me not working hard enough or socializing too much during class time, but that all changed my junior year. In my junior year of high school I decided I had to expand on my knowledge and change my ignorant ways to achieve my goal of attending a four year college. One of the major steps I took to expand in my knowledge was enrolling in Honors classes. I would have never thought of joining honors if it was not for my Sophomore English teacher Mrs. Palmar who pushed me to do more than my best work and made me realize that I was capable of much more than what I expected from myself. During my junior year I decided to take Honors English and Honors History. That year I learned, what the feeling of stress really was, having to finish essay after essay, project after project, and how I really had to learn how to focus and spend more time hitting the books rather than doing something unproductive. I knew that I had to start learning skills to become a successful student for college during high school, so that I can excel in the real world and in all areas that I could find myself in. I had to sacrifice many things like going out with my friends, going to parties hanging out with my boyfriend, but I told myself that If I worked hard now, It would all pay off in the future and I would be able to have “fun” which I still believe in now. I have truly enjoyed my life at NAHS not only as a student, but as a friend towards my teachers and friends because thanks to them I wouldn’t have seen what the important things in life are and how I acquired so much knowledge throughout these four years to make decisions for myself and for my future life as well.
