INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY Esophagitis is a term used to describe inflammation of the esophagus, which is the tube that connects the throat to the stomach.Esophagitis is irritation or inflammation of the esophagus . The esophagus is the tube that carries food from your throat to your stomach. It is painful and can make it hard for the person to swallow. There are different types of esophagitis depending on the cause and these are Eosinophilic Esophagitis, Reflux Esophagitis, Drug-Induced Esophagitis and Infectious Esophagitis.
The symptoms of esophagitis are; heartburn, pain when you swallow, trouble swallowing food or liquids, chest pain (may be similar to the pain of a heart attack) and a cough.Sometimes it also causes: nausea or vomiting, fever and belly pain.
It may be diagnosed by an endoscopy or biopsy. The treatment you need depends on what is causing the esophagitis. If you have esophagitis caused by acid reflux or GERD, your doctor will likely recommend that you change your diet, lose weight if needed, and make other lifestyle changes.
Esophagitis is often caused by fluid that contains acid flowing back from the stomach to the esophagus, a condition called gastroesophageal reflux. An autoimmune disorder called eosinophilic esophagitis.
Treatment depends on the cause. For reflux disease, you may need medications to reduce acid. Infections will need to be treated with antibiotics.s also causes this condition.
Risk factors for developing esophagitis include the weakened immune system
