A home town state of mind When I was a little girl I use to always go to the park and while swinging I would imagine how much cooler it would be to live in a big city with lots of people and many things to see and experience. I never would have thought that at my age I would be sitting and relishing all the amazing times I had in my small home town. The family traditions, slow living and many childhood memories hold my heart in my hometown of Norfolk Nebraska. The boldly colored green grass, light brown cat tails lining the lake shore and fishing poles hanging off a dock all are vivid in my mind when thinking about the weekends I experienced in my adolescence. My feelings of those weekends use to be that they were boring, yet thinking back now I can feel that those weekends were rich in family tradition and were a lot of fun. We would tell scary stories while we were all gathered around a warm campfire on a crisp night, eating smores after a long day of swimming and fishing in the lake water. Waking up the next morning to the smell of breakfast being cooked by our mothers and grandmother on an open fire pit. Later on we would all gather to play an exciting game of baseball. The smell of the baseball diamond clay, the cheering from my elderly family watching on and the little kids saying that they can’t wait until they were old enough to play. These days truly were wholesome fun that I will never forget. Following these long feeling weekends, we would then return to our usual daily routines of work and school. The slow paced feeling we lived in in our town made the week days feel full of fun with our friends after school and our school hours filled with knowledge. The time moved so slow, making every minute count during these hours for something. Now it feels like the time moves so fast you can barely keep up.
