The voyages of discovery and of the new world were promoted by many factors economically, technologically, politically, and religiously. In the years from about 1450 to 1525 there were many reasons as to why explorations were aided by the main four factors that were previously stated. Advancements in astronomy and navigation were big technological factors. Countries were gaining little income, causing them to go and search for ways to become prosperous was an economic factor. The marriage of Ferdinand and Isabella that unified Castile and Aragon was a major political factor. The desire for Christianizing people of the new world was a huge religious factor. All of these factors were a cause of, and motivated, European exploration.…

Zheng He of China and Prince Henry of Portugal, both set out on maritime expeditions. Prince Henry is widely known and remembered while Zheng He is recognized for being a eunuch. Both used maritime travel to gain economic influence, power and success for their rulers, and to successfully gain economic dominance over the new, conquered lands. However, the two voyagers differed greatly in their reasons for exploration. Henry wanted to spread his religion and focused on gaining allies while Zheng He strived to gain knowledge, trade, and force people to acknowledge Chinese power. In addition, Zheng He actually led these voyages while Henry just funded them. Finally, Portugal largely supported Prince Henry’s expeditions while Zheng He was granted little to no support in China.…

Both Marco Polo and Zheng He were excellent world navigators in their time. However, Zheng He’s voyages and travels were much better and more important because they had much more of a profound impact on the world. His expeditions caused much more prominent change in China, directly and indirectly, than Marco Polo’s did in Western Europe. Zheng He’s voyages largely helped educate Ancient China as well as establish it’s a world power ahead of its time. Because of these voyages, he also led to much downfall in Chinese success later on in Ancient China. Marco Polo, while much more famous, only told the western world about all of the experiences on Ancient Trade routes. It is possible that of Marco Polo’s writing was embellished and not accurate to certain areas. Zheng He’s voyages were more meaningful because they were commissioned by more important people and his work would change the world landscape much more.…

Zheng He was a Chinese Muslim Admiral he led 7 voyages. He sailed from places in Southeast Asia to places in East Africa. Zheng He had about 40-300 ships each voyage. The size of his fleet was spectacular. The types of ships he had included fighting ships, storage ships, and massive "treasure ships" which were over 400 feet long. The ships these men traveled on were humongous. Some were as big as football fields and would crush Christopher Columbus's Santa Maria. In addition to the large ships he had massive crews. Most of Zheng He's expeditions had about 27 thousand men per fleet. The crew included soldiers, carpenters, doctors, accountants and many more occupations. Despite the ships and the crew what made him so wondrous was that when he…

These were magnificent goods, such as silk, which other nations found more then useful thus opening up trade routes between more nations then before. Even more impressive is the way the Zuh Di reopened the trade routes with Africa especially. The Malaccan Straight, which is the main water trade route from China to Africa, had been over run with pirates until Zuh Di’s intervention. As well as opening the floor for more diplomatic trading between nations, such as the tension between Siam and Malacca being diminished by the Chinese presence. This was accomplished because of Zuh Di’s want for all the nations of the world to acknowledge that China was truly the Middle Kingdom of the…

He enriched their geographical knowledge single handily and broadened their horizons. With his accounts and his crews accounts the Chinese were able to begin to understand the world around them along with the local geological situation, the religious beliefs of those that did not reside in China, the folk customs and traditions of those that were different from china and weather information which was brought to the forefront. Also with Zheng He being seen as the first true intercontinental navigator he turned world navigation from that of continent navigation to ocean navigation. He would be seen as the forerunner to explorers like Christopher Columbus, Vasco De Gama and Ferdinand Magellan, and he would be seen as making great contributions to ancient Chinese navigation. With the accolades that Zheng He left on China what did he leave on the world? He left the Muslim faith in many places he visited. He also left Ming-style architecture in many places he visited. Overall though it is safe to say that Zheng He left more on China than he did on the rest of the world and it wouldn’t be until later in history that China would realize that.…

The most important of these people is Zheng He, who was a Chinese Admiral. Zheng He was a devout Muslim born in Mongolia and grew up speaking both Arabic and Chinese. He was taken at a young age by the Chinese Ming Dynasty during an invasion, was made a Eunuch, and served in the Imperial palace. Throughout his life, he traveled over 31,000 miles, and helped to link Chinese and Arab Civilization. Through loyal service, he rose through the ranks of the Chinese navy, eventually reaching the position of Admiral. During his time as Admiral he led seven “Treasure Ship” Voyages between 1405 and 1433 CE, where the goal of the expedition was to obtain valuable goods, hence the name. The Ships in the Treasure fleet were massive, with Zheng He writing that “sixty two of the largest ships were 440 feet long”. Each of these massive ships was manned by a crew of approximately 500 men, ranging from sailors, doctors and soldiers to artisans and meteorologists. His fourth voyage had a total of 30,000 men. Additionally, a map made by Zheng He was discovered recently which dates back to 1418 CE. This map shows a rendition of the entire world, including the Americas. This map has caused a lot of controversy because of this, and has led many historians to believe that the New world was in fact discovered and mapped by the Chinese before it was discovered by Christopher Columbus. While there is not currently sufficient proof to say whether or not this theory is true, it has raised many questions about common beliefs about the new worlds discovery. Zheng He, while he was not Arab, was a muslim who throughout his many voyages allowed many trade routes to form leading to both scientific discovery, and to increased economic prosperity for both China and The Islamic…

Zheng He. Zheng He was born in the year of 1371. He was born in a small village which he stayed with his family. The first 10 years of Zheng He’s life were spent in what is now China’s Hunan province. Everything was going good until one day a group of tribes men came and raded the village which Zheng He and his family resided in. This group of tribes men were known as “TheMing”. On this day, Zheng He witnessed his father getting executed by these men. This I know would be a very displeasing sight to view as a young child. That was not the only bad thing that happened on this day. Not only was his father executed by them. Zheng He had a change is his life on this day as well. The Ming also tortured Zheng He as well. Zheng He was striped for his testicles. Zheng He now became a “Eunuch”. A eunuch means that the testicles of a male were surgically removed. Time went by and Zheng He set his first voyage. Zheng He set sail on July 11, 1405. He lead an approximate number between 40-63 ships. With that amount of ships that must mean that there were a lot of travelers with Zheng He to travel along. Well it was plenty of travelers with him, a number of 27,000 people were recorded to travel on this voyage. Zheng He traveled with plenty of huge ships. The ships were so huge that people mention that it looked as if it was a floating city on the sea. Zheng He largest ships were supposedly five times the length of Columbus’ largest flagship. The ships had to take just about forever to prepare to set for sail. The ships looked as if they wore tons and tons. Each hull of Zheng He ships were divided into 13 water tight compartments to prevent the ships from sinking. The reason behind having 13 was because the ship still would sink even if one of the hulls broke while they were traveling. On this voyage, Zheng He did some remarkable things. Zheng He…
