Drink the Experience
From a small shop in Seattle to a multi-billion dollar empire, Starbucks proudly serves the finest coffee in the world. Each time a customer visits a Starbucks, they are receiving more than a $4.00 cup of coffee; they are receiving an experience, the Starbucks experience. The Starbucks experience, according to founder Howard Schultz is centered by the company’s mission “to inspire and nurture the human spirit-one person, one cup, and one neighborhood at a time.” The experience is more than ordering a coffee drink the way you like it; it is the ambiance, the comfort found in the aroma of ground and brewing beans, the hum of conversation, and being in the company of people, who call their favorite shop “a home away from home” (PR Newswire).
“Fresh-brewed, piping-hot leadership strategies have made Starbucks the robust company that it is today”(Michelli 10). Entranced by experiences he had at Italian coffee bars in Italy, Howard Shultz was determined to recreate that experience in the United States. The Starbucks experience has become a consistent, predictable, warm, secure, friendly, and clean environment that brings a sense of peace and tranquility to its customers. Employees are encouraged to create personalized customer experiences. For instance, names are written on the customer’s orders as customer service is a top priority. Specially trained to diffuse unpleasant situations, the company’s success lies in its proven ability to “secure customer loyalty, stimulate business growth, generate profits, and energize employees all at the same time” (Michelli 10). Leadership at Starbucks spends a great deal of time, effort, and energy educating its partners and staff about customer satisfaction. Partners receive extensive training in product knowledge, success principles, self development, and human interaction skills to improve the customer
