Playa Mujeres is not as well known as other tourist destinations on Mexico's east coast, but if you're the type of traveler looking to rest and recharge yourself, then this is the place to go. Located approximately five miles off the coast of Cancun, this island is not only a great place for adults to relax, but it is great for children as well. The following are just six things your kids will enjoy while staying on the island.

Playa Norte

The best way to snorkel is to do so with a guide that takes you to the best spots to view marine life. The water is very clear in this part of the Mexican coast, and you will not need to be a strong swimmer. With a mask, snorkel and fins, you only need follow your guide to see an underwater world that is disappearing at an alarming rate in other parts of the world. The best place for snorkeling is on the south end of the island in a place called Garrafon National Reef Park.

Hiking
Teenagers may enjoy going off on their own to explore the island on foot. Some of the best places for exploration are on the East coast of the island where the beaches are rocky and mysterious.

Horse riding
Horses can been ridden along the beach. The horses are very tame and the riding is at a slow pace along the shore line.
