Imagine living in a time where owning slaves was normal and popular. Well slaves suffered a ton of hardships in the south, but had some freedom in the North. Some freedoms were churches,education, and voting in some states but they did in fact have many restrictions. Some freedoms slaves had in the North were churches and work. Slaves did have more freedom in the North than in the South.For instance, in “Document B” it states “He shall be free to live, and to thrive,if he can, and to pay taxes and perform duties”(Mackay 145). So they did contain the simple rights in the North, like to not be owned and sold and they could have jobs. In “Document D” it shows and picture of a church. So slaves were not allowed to hold jobs in the government and were not even allowed to participate in it. So slaves did have more freedom in the North, but white people were still considered dominant in the North and South. For instance they were not allowed to serve on a jury in some states. Schools were also split between whites and blacks and many other places were split because of race. So slaves were mostly free in the North but not fully. So at the end of the day slaves did in fact have more freedom in the North. For instance they could go to church and could in some states vote. But they did have some restrictions like working for the government, and schools were mostly separated between white people and slaves. But it is up to you to think if slaves had freedom in the North or not. We are lucky to not live in a world as harsh as
