While some may claim that this law is unnecessary because they can multitask, are wrong. It has been proven that multitasking can lower the quality of work due to a lack of focus, such as doing homework while watching TV. Texting and driving works the same way. Because of the constant distraction from the call phone, the driver is never able to fully focus on the road. Cell phones cause a lack of focus. To check social media or to send a text would require you to take your eyes completely off of the road. In the few seconds you spend looking at your phone instead of the road, so much can happen. A person could walk across a cross walk or the car in front of you could hit their breaks. Missing what is going on around you cause serious damage. Making having a hand held cell phone illegal while driving will help to eliminate the lack of focus so many drivers have. It will make them pay attention to the road and what is going on around them the whole time they're are behind the wheel, making it easier to get to places safely. The safety concerns that are associated with checking your phone while driving is enormous.
