1900’s when the Fischer family started realizing that it was time to move,” said my grandma who I interviewed her perspective and the families history and heart ship along their journey to live and achieve the American dream. It was 1900’s when the Fischer family my mom's side of the family decided to start heading over to America.
Since the Fischer family had some money according to my grandma some may say it was easy heading to America because we had money but the only thing back then that was a major problem in the journey was Hitler and his concentration camp.Since my family was Jewish they had to come up with a story to lie to not get thrown into a camp.It was very suspicious because not many people back then had money. My grandma explained their story and how they could avoid being thrown in camp and be separated from one another ; Therefore, They where Swedish Fisherman who bought out a huge fishing company in Switzerland and decided to make a move once they stricken it big.Their story worked no one second guessed them. When they finally got to America my grandma explained to me how there was not much money left. So I assume that most money was spent on traveling, food and water, and medical supplies. My grandma and I both think that the Fischer side of the family achieved the American dream by getting by the hardships and everything that was going on and making it to America without loosing know one and still being close together and being able to have a roof and food on the table. After I asked my Grandma about my heritage and the way we got to America I
decided to make investigation further in this subject I then asked my Grandma if she thinks she achieved the American dream and what it meant for her. She strongly answered “Yes...Me and your Grandpa have both achieved it we both started off with nothing coming from small towns to moving everywhere to making our own money to providing for others and having kids that gave us beautiful grandchildren and still gave us time to enjoy what we love most gave me an opportunity to teach and still be a mother and find time to get my last teaching credential to be a professor your Poppy (grandpa) is getting to collect cars and being able to show them off to others and buy pieces of land to redevelop. Even though your Poppy and I didn't get to grow up in the best community and best role models to have money to spend on us it helped us learn that everything is a gift and life and to never give up even when things seem hopeless” When my grandma was telling me all this in our interview I kept on thinking about all the other people out in the world that kinda grew up in the same situation as my family did and that it is alright and everything is going to be ok.But it also got me thinking about all the kids and teens in foster homes and the Native Americans that went through so much”
Foster care is for children and teenagers who have an unstable home Taken into the custody of the government or social services and they are Placed in a group home, private home, or other institution.Half of the time when these kids and teens are placed into homes they do not know who these people are the system rarely does know a lot of siblings get separated and a lot of the time people do not want older kids because they think they are more trouble and work than say a 2-year-old or a baby. 24% of these kids will have no high school diploma or GED 3x more than the general population. With this being said there are not very many advantages for kids in the foster system.
