Essay: Beyonce Advertising Soda
Beyonce advertising soda
Beyonce selling soda uh I don't think so. She should have thought twice before she put started advertising for Pepsi. All around the country and other countries to a lot of the little kids look up to her and try to be like her. What she doesn't realize is that kids are going to get obese from drinking to much pop, bone diseases that can come from drinking soda, and she doesn't for this silly little campaign.

To start us off, kids everywhere in this country are already obese, it doesn't need to get us worse. Within 4 years the amount off obese adults has gone up by 20%. The scientist of of the University of North Carolina Interdisciplinary Obesity Program have reason to believe that the reason why the increase in adult obesity is pop. Because they believe that pop is the reason for weight gain they have conducted studies in teens and young adults and tested to see that if drinking pop a lot as a kid made them get in a habit of drinking pop which leading to obese as an adult. At the end of this study they concluded that the habit of drinking pop starts when you are a kid. While Beyonce is promoting Pepsi and telling everyone in the nation to drink this product. She doesn't realize that she is setting kids up for obesity.

On top of that, drinking soda can cause bone diseases. Drinking pop has been known to affect our joints and bones. According to a Live strong article drinking pop as kid can lead to a bone disease called "osteoporosis". This disease thins the bone by about 40% which makes our bones a lot weaker. Miner falls can damage the bone. Because the bone is so thin it is twice as hard to rebuild itself. Because of this and the obesity statement drinking more soda leads to broken obese kids. Because who falls more small kids or bigger kids. Bigger kids do and they will most likely break a bone because of the thinning of the bone. Beyonce is hurting kids but she doesn't realize it.

And finally, Beyonce and her husband,

If PepsiCo were a country, the size of its economy—sixty billion dollars in revenues in 2010—would put it sixty-sixth in gross national product, between Ecuador and Croatia. Many studies point to the ubiquity of high-calorie, low-cost processed foods and drinks as one of the major drivers of this condition. Snacks, in particular, play a role in childhood obesity, which is growing even faster than obesity in adults. Americans consume about fifty gallons of soda a year, more than four times the average per-capita consumption sixty years ago. Americans also ingest about thirty-four hundred milligrams of sodium per day, twice the recommended amount; sodium has long been linked to high blood pressure. almost half of PepsiCo’s business is overseas (thirty per cent of it in developing countries), foreign markets eventually tend to follow U.S. trends. The markets of the future may well be in “packaged nutrition”—in enriched products like PepsiCo’s SoBe Lifewater, which contains vitamins, and in its pricey Naked line of fruit juices and smoothies, which contain antioxidants. Another growing category is “functional” foods and beverages, like varieties of the sports drink Gatorade, which PepsiCo markets for specific physiological or metabolic attributes. (Thanks to Gatorade’s new “fit series,” you can drink G1 Prime before you work out, G2 Perform during your…

United States faces the risk that the percentage of obesity among children will increase. The percentage of children and adolescents who suffer from this epidemic is 17% (CDC). One generation ago, the rate was three times less than now. The number of obese children is continuously growing, which may cause a danger to children and the future of the country. The risk of obesity does not only mean the risk of diseases and health problems, but also the risks associated with psychological and social impact. There is no doubt that one of the biggest causes of obesity is the unhealthy dietary choices that many children make nowadays (IOM). The larger the increase in the percentage of obese children and thereby the increase in the risks surrounding them, the greater the need to confront this problem. Companies, institutions, parents, and individuals should play a role in fighting obesity, but the role of government is most important. The government can enact laws regulating the process of junk food advertisement aimed at children that contribute to the problem significantly. Although some jurists and businessmen oppose such regulation by government, there is some evidence that regulating junk foods advertisement aimed at children yield positive results.…

“It may seem harmless to allow your child to drink soda every day. Thinking that soda won’t cause the child any immediate harm is unfortunately common.” (Khara) Unfortunately for the United States, it’s one of the first countries to start drinking soft drinks. The problem of obesity is a huge problem in America, but what is even more of a problem is the alarming rate of childhood obesity. Over the years reports have show that our children’s weight has tripled, and in some cases quadrupled. As stated in a journal by Desrochers and Holt (2007) “In ten years from 1994 to 2004, overweight increase from 7.2% to 13.9% among children aged 2 to 5, from 11% to 19% among children aged 6 to 11, and from 11% to 17% among adolescents aged 12 to 19” (p. 1). The issue is clear, but the cause of this is still uncertain.…

For many years, America has been considered an obese nation. Efforts to lower the obesity level have been made such as increasing pay on unhealthy foods and decreasing serving sizes nationwide. In a world where “obesity has increased by more than 50% among America’s children and teens since 1976,” rather than drastically change what is being eaten, children should be encouraged to…

Seeing “Culturally Impactful Entertainment Image” in the choices for the final project, I almost immediately knew what I wanted to analyze! Beyoncé’s sixth solo album “Lemonade” dropped exclusively on Tidal on April 23, 2016. Being that “Lemonade” technically classifies as a short film, I decided to focus on one portion out of the twelve tracks. The third track “Don’t Hurt Yourself” from the “Anger” segment is a powerful reminder to society which is displayed in a manner where the underlying message can easily become lost. Due to the controversial lyrics, a clip of Political figure Malcom Ex was overlooked in favor of Beyonce’s personal life. Often when it comes to race, the media chooses to purposely ignore the conversation that is prompted by such powerful imagery. People accuse Beyonce of being a…

Our world today, it seems all people are doing is eating out and sitting on the couch. The influx of easily available junk food is causing people to gain weight at a much higher rate than in previous years. This might be because people are ill-informed about what they are putting into their bodies and what the consequences are of them eating poorly. While this poor diet could be counter-balanced with exercise, many people are falling short of their recommended daily regimen. Readily available food and soda has become a newer phenomenon in the last couple of decades, and it continues to become larger problem every year. This is something not many people think about, but it is a problem because more and more people are choosing to eat fast food instead of staying home and cooking healthy meals…

In the United States today, obesity has become an enormous problem. In the last 3decades, the number of people overweight has increased dramatically. A study done by theCenters of Disease Control showed that since 1980, one third of our adult population has becomeoverweight. America is the richest but also the fattest nation in the world, and our obese backsides are the butt of jokes in every other country (Klein 28). The 1980s were a time whenAmericans suddenly started going crazy over dieting, jumping onto the treadmills, and buying prepackaged non-fat foods. However, while all of that was going on, the number of obeseAmericans began to increase. According to a report in the Journal of the American MedicalAssociation, 58 million people in our country weigh over 20 percent of their body’s ideal weight. The article “Fat Times” states, “If this were about tuberculosis, it would be called an epidemic”(Elmer-Dewit 58). The eating habits of society have steadily become more harmful and havestarted to produce gluttonous children, over-indulgent adults, and a food industry set too muchon satisfying our appetites.Obesity can begin at a very young age. Many children in our society are overweight, setting themselves up for serious health problems later in life. Type 2 diabetes, high bloodcholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart problems are just some of the risks. Children who areoverweight also tend to feel less secure, less happy, and be stressed more than normal weight…

Currently, obesity is the second-leading cause of preventable death, after cigarette smoking (Fuhrman 105). If our children continue to gain weight at the current rates, obesity will soon become the leading cause of death in the United States Prevention of obesity in children should be the first line of treatment. If obesity is not prevented, the cornerstone of treatment for childhood obesity is modification of dietary and exercise habits. Decreasing portion sizes, decreasing high-calorie food and drinks, and decreasing snacks are the most common dietary recommendations for obese children. A recent study done in a school setting, without parental involvement, showed that education of children about nutrition and the adverse effects of sweetened soft drinks on body weight resulted in improved food choices both at home and at school, with subsequent weight loss (Dalton 155-57). This study suggests that public health campaigns targeted at children may be an effective means of approaching this problem and, if initiated, could be the beginning of…

Obesity has been a bigger and bigger problem in the United States over the past few years. The percentage of overweight American children and teens has more than doubled in the past decade (Greenblatt). There are many reasons that could lead to the increasing percentage of people being obese in American. The U.S. food industry aggressively markets high-fat, high-sugar, super-sized foods. Modern communities encourage driving rather than walking. Physical education is being dropped by schools even as fattening snack foods are welcomed onto campus (Greenblatt). None of these are the healthy ways to go for Americans but what is being promoted in our society. Americans are becoming less active and eating more fast food that is leading to our country becoming one of the most obese countries in the world.…
