Civil Rights Movement The Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s and 1960’s was necessary because of the fact that African Americans were being denied their rights as citizens during that time. This was mostly seen in the Souths system of legal segregation.
The Civil Rights Movement helped with many issues. The first would be Jim
Crow Laws. The Jim Crow Laws made it so that blacks couldn't marry a white person, black and whites had to use separate facilities, black and whites used separate schooling, and etc. The Civil Rights Movement took this away allowing blacks and whites to use the same facilities, schools, mixed marriages, and etc. Another is Brown
V Education. This was a case in which the court ruled state laws making separate schooling for black and white students. Blacks did not learn the same, got the old books, and etc. The Civil Rights Movement helped with letting blacks get the same education as whites had. Another was Emmitt Till. Emmitt Till was beaten and killed at the age of 14, by two white men, that say they were trying to teach him a “lesson”. He went into town and bought something, he then handed the lady his money instead of putting it on the counter to let her grab it. He said a remark, in which her case was
“bad”. That night, she went and told her husband about what had happened. Her husband and his half brother had went to the house he was staying in, and kidnapped him. They then took him to an abandoned shack and beat and shot him right in the head. His murder affected the Civil Rights Movement extremely. At his funeral, his mom wanted them to leave the casket open so that the media and many others could see what they had done to her baby. Another is Little Rock Nine. They sent nine blacks to
Little Rock Central High School, which was an all white school. Many whites were rude to the nine black kids and spat at them, walked behind them and yelled “lynch um”, and many other mean

On September 2006 in Jena, Louisiana a black student asked for permission from a school teacher to sit under the shade of a tree but only white students sat under that tree I was called the white tree. School officials told the black students that they could sit wherever they wanted to sit and they did. The next day three nooses, in the school colors, were seen hanging from the white tree. The school principal found out that three white students were responsible for hanging the three nooses. The principal recommended that the three white students be expelled but the white superintendent over ruled the principal and gave the three students a three day suspension. The superintendent did not expel the students because he believed that the nooses were only a youthful stunt. When black students found out about the nooses they decided to organize a sit in under the tree to protest the lenient treatment given to the noose hanging white students. Racial tensions remained elevated throughout the fall but on Monday, December 4, 2006, a white student who allegedly had been racially taunting black students in support of the students who hung the nooses got into a fight with the black students. Allegedly the white student was taken to the hospital for treatment for being beat but he was later released and attended a social function later that day. As a result of the incident six black students were arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder. All six of the black students were expelled from school and were charged with 140,000 dollars or less bail. On the morning of the trial the District Attorney reduced the charged with attempted second degree murder to second degree aggravated battery and conspiracy. The prosecutor was allowed to argue with the jury that the tennis shoes worn by Bell could be considered a dangerous weapon. When the pool of potential jurors was summoned fifty white people appeared. The jury…

All types of white people were in this mob, white women, white children, and white men. We walked towards where the heart of the mob must have been, and through all of the commotion, I got separated from my family. “MOM”, I called out. “DAD”, I shouted even louder, though my voice was drowned out in the crowd. Over the noise of a thousand voices, I heard some say “those blacks deserve to die”, or “think about that poor girl”. I started to get scared, and pushed through the crowd, hoping that I would bump into my mom or dad. Unknowingly, though, I ended up in the front lines of the mob, in the front of the police station. I was handed a brick by a stranger and told “hey kid, throw this brick at that window”, while he pointed at one of the first floor windows. Eventually, I put together the pieces. All these people were yelling about lynching some blacks, and how a girl had been violated. I came to the conclusion that these black men had been arrested for raping a young white girl, and were being held at the police station jail. Upon coming to this realization, I dropped the brick in disgust. I was completely against killing anyone in cold blood, no matter what they had done. Overwhelmed by the angry energy of all these white men who towered over me, and losing my parents, I started to cry. Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder. I spun around as fast as a bolt of lightning, only to be relieved to see my dad standing there. He pulled my back, and right then the crowd seemed to surge forward. It seemed as if they had breached the defenses of the police and were now storming through the station. My dad pulled me over to the outskirts of the crowd, and witnessed that in no time the mob exited the station, with 3 black men in their…
